Pampered by my three brothers: the return of the neglected heiress novel Chapter 1283

Chapter 1283: Did you see her?

Another moment of silence filled the room as neither Penny nor Slater broke it. Slater kept his eyes on his sister, while Penny kept her gaze downward.

"One more thing we should remember is..." she trailed off, slowly raising her eyes to meet Slater’s. "Someone’s going to kill him."

"If not me, then I’m sure they’ll find someone else to do it." Slater let out a shallow breath. "Initially, I don’t know why I was chosen. It’s not that I’m special, to be honest. It’s just... even if I fail, nothing will trace back to me."

"Did Zoren manage to find those people?"

"I don’t know." Slater shook his head. "Though I did pay them all a visit — killed a few, but the people who taught me the skills I use are nowhere to be found. They all just disappear without a trace, which doesn’t surprise me. After all, they were a powerful group that moved in total secrecy."

Penny rocked her head and snapped her eyes to the board. But before she could say anything, Slater pulled out his phone and tapped on it.

DING!

Her brows rose as she shifted her gaze to him.

"I sent you something," he said, placing his phone back in his pocket. "You might not need it since you’ve already seen it, but I think it should be on the board."

Curious, Penny took out her phone and checked the message he had sent. It was a photo of a woman’s portrait.

"This is..."

"Naylani," said Slater. "I took it from the Old Pierson Residence."

"You stole it?"

Slater pressed his lips together and shrugged. "I needed it."

"And why do you need it?"

"Because she resembles someone very much," he breathed out, pausing for a second before speaking again. "The young lady... who was caught in the crossfire during a joint military mission. That mission was led by—"

"Charles Bennet," Penny whispered. Slater nodded at her.

"I couldn’t get the files from Mint because they were confidential. From what I heard, Mint had to pull some strings to get her hands on this record and that mission," Slater continued solemnly. "Mint showed me the file, but she couldn’t give it to me. Holding such confidential files can be too dangerous, and she couldn’t let her agents hold on to them, even for safekeeping."

Although Mint had handed Penny some files about the lethal drug underground, this new information was entirely different.

"That’s what she looks like," Slater pointed at her phone. "The creator of that lethal drug, who said she tattooed the formula inside her body. So, we can assume that’s why whoever held Dad captive in the past was still looking for her body."

Penny’s brows furrowed as her eyes fell on the phone again. It was a younger photo of Naylani. The longer she looked at it, the more Penny’s mouth fell open.

"This is the painting," she whispered, making his brows rise. "Back on the island, Enzo Pierson had a workshop for his paintings. He had this unfinished painting of his muse."

She stopped and looked up at him. "It was Naylani Pierson," she said before lifting her phone. "The painting looks just like this one."

"..." Penny slowly gazed at the small portrait on the phone again, her lips pressed into a thin line. "Third Brother, do you know that Renren’s mother was alive in the past?"
