Pampered by my three brothers: the return of the neglected heiress novel Chapter 1304

Chapter 1304: Just shaken

Never in Nina’s life had she ever received such a twisted gift, and she knew this was not from Finn. But...

"How... did it get in here?"

For a second, her heart stopped as she moved her eyes to the door. Without thinking, Nina jumped from her spot and locked it. Her entire body shook with shock and adrenaline as she rushed to the bedside table where her phone was.

Despite her trembling thumb, she managed to dial the police hotline.

"This is—"

"I need help!" Nina yelled before the call operator could finish. "Please. I think someone got into my house."

Her eyes scanned the room as she gulped. Out of instinct, she checked the windows. They were locked. As she explained the emergency to the operator, she also checked her wardrobe, just to make sure she was alone. Thankfully, no one was inside.

"Yes," she breathed out, knees buckling as her strength wavered. "Yes, please. I’m scared."

"Our officers are already on their way. Please stay on the line. Are you still alone in the room?" the operator asked.

"Yes!" Nina panted. "But I’m not sure if there’s anyone outside."

"Our officers are close. Can you come downstairs?"

Nina pursed her lips, gripping her phone tighter. She had just told the operator she was scared, yet they were still asking her to leave the room.

What if the person who left that gift was still inside the house?

A whirlwind of thoughts swirled in her mind, and before she knew it, she was tearing up.

The police arrived at Nina’s place quickly. Upon hearing their voices, she mustered the courage to leave her room. She ran—sprinting down the stairs so fast she nearly tripped. Relief flooded her chest when she reached the entrance and bolted outside, straight to the officers.

While some officers checked the house, Nina remained in the small courtyard with a female officer, a blanket draped over her shoulders. She gazed at the entrance, holding her breath, waiting for any sign of trouble inside.

"It’s clear," an officer finally said as he stepped out. He sighed, looking at Nina with sympathy. "Miss, do you live alone?"

"Yes—I mean, no." Still shaken, Nina shook her head. "My fiancé lives with me."

"And where is he now?"

"He’s at the airport picking up his parents," she replied, doing her best to cooperate.

"Do you have family in the area?"

"No." Her voice cracked as the weight of everything settled. "I chose to live here because it’s close to my workplace... and it’s cheap."

The officer nodded, asking a few more questions. Just then, another officer emerged from the house. After a quick conversation, they both turned back to Nina. fгeewebnovёl.com

"Have you lost any keys to the house?" one officer asked.

"No," she answered, shaking her head.

"Who else has a key?"

"Me... my fiancé... and maybe the landlord."

The officers exchanged looks before instructing their team to question neighbors and check for any nearby security cameras.

"Miss Reed," the first officer continued, "we inspected your home, and aside from the disturbing gift, there were no signs of forced entry. However, we did find that your back door wasn’t properly locked."
