Meanwhile...
After hearing about last night from Zoren, Finn ordered his driver to speed to Nina’s workplace.
All night, he had barely slept—not that it bothered him. He could rest later, with her. But now, knowing that Nina had needed him, regret gnawed at his chest.
Had he known, he wouldn’t have gone to the airport to pick up his parents. She was more important than them. He would rather be deemed an unfilial son than a neglectful partner.
On the way, he tried calling Nina, but her phone was on silent. She was probably busy, but that didn’t ease his worry. She had been through something horrific, and he hadn’t been there for her.
As the car sped through the streets, they soon reached Nina’s workplace. Just as they pulled up in front of the building, Finn caught sight of her walking along the sidewalk.
"Stop," he ordered under his breath, eyes fixed on her dragging steps. His heart clenched, his hands balling into fists.
The moment the car halted, he jumped out, striding toward her. Without hesitation, he reached for her arm and pulled her back, spinning her around before wrapping his arms tightly around her.
Nina jolted, stunned by the sudden embrace. Her eyes widened, her entire body stiffening. But as the familiar scent of his cologne surrounded her and his voice reached her ears, she snapped her gaze up.
"Finn?" she murmured, confused. "What are you—"
"I’m sorry," he breathed out, his chest rising and falling against hers. "I didn’t know. I’m sorry."
A deep crease formed between her brows as she noticed some of her coworkers glancing in their direction.
"Finn," she whispered, nudging his hip. "We’re at my workplace."
But Finn only tightened his hold, exhaling shakily.
Seeing this, Nina stopped protesting. She peered up at him.
"You... found out?" she asked softly. "Did Penny tell you?"
"No," he whispered. "Zoren Pierson... had a slip of the tongue."
"I see."
Her shoulders relaxed as she let out a deep sigh, a bitter smile tugging at her lips. Slowly, she reached up and clasped his back.
For a moment, the world around them faded. It was just the two of them, standing still amidst the blur of life.
’I guess... I still needed his hug, after all.’ She let out another breath, her fingers tightening against his shirt.
"No, I’m sorry for not telling you."

Back in Finn’s car, they sat in the backseat, their hands intertwined. Public displays of affection weren’t appropriate at her workplace, so he had whisked her away for a quiet moment.
"I was planning to tell you after the family meeting, but..." Nina sighed, giving his hand a squeeze. "I’m sorry, Finn. Penny told me I should tell you last night, but I just... couldn’t."
She lowered her head. Finn, seeing this, reached over and gently pinched her chin, making her look at him.
"Nina, no matter what, please tell me next time," he urged, almost pleading. "I know you didn’t want to worry me, but I’d rather be worried than be kept in the dark."
"I’m sorry."
"Come here."
Finn pulled her closer, wrapping his arms around her.
