Pampered by my three brothers: the return of the neglected heiress novel Chapter 1370

Chapter 1370: Poisons just lingering in the Old Madam’s fridge

DING!

Just as the elevator doors were about to close, a hand shot between them, forcing them to open again. Atlas snapped his eyes toward the person on the other side. It was Dean.

Dean offered a brief smile before stepping into the elevator. "I hope you don’t mind me riding with you."

As expected, Atlas didn’t respond. He remained motionless, his gaze fixed forward, while Dean casually glanced at him. Shrugging, Dean didn’t expect much of a response anyway.

"It seems you have plenty of free time nowadays, Director Dean."

Much to Dean’s surprise, Atlas spoke after only a few seconds of silence. That was new.

"I don’t have plenty of free time, Mr. Bennet. I simply know how to do my job efficiently," Dean replied, his tone both knowing and proud. "That way, I always have extra time for important matters."

The corner of his mouth lifted into a smirk. "For instance, whenever I hear that you’re coming down from your office to this floor, I run like my life depends on it. After all, I care deeply about Director William’s health and just want to make sure he’s doing fine."

That explained how Dean had conveniently been outside William’s office earlier.

Atlas cast him a sidelong glance but remained silent. By now, he was accustomed to Dean’s hypocrisy. Not that he disapproved—Dean’s sarcastic remarks and last-minute jabs at William were usually quite effective.

William deserved them, anyway. Had Atlas not been buried in work, he would’ve stayed longer just to watch William cling to his life.

The silence in the elevator stretched on endlessly after that. Atlas glanced at the numbers above the door, and when they neared his floor, he blinked.

"He’s onto you," Atlas said suddenly, making Dean’s brows rise. "William Pierson has someone following you. Whatever you’ve been up to, he probably knows. Be careful."

DING!

The moment the elevator doors slid open, Atlas stepped out without another word.

Dean, on the other hand, remained frozen, staring at the now-empty doorway. Only when the lift chimed again and the doors shut did he snap out of his momentary trance.

Deep lines creased his brows. "He has someone tailing me?" he muttered, narrowing his eyes.

Even if he and Atlas weren’t particularly close, Dean didn’t question the warning. Atlas wouldn’t say something so reckless just to pass the time. If anything, it meant Atlas had already seen something—he just wasn’t sure himself about its details. Otherwise, he would’ve said more.

"Be careful," Dean murmured to himself, the smile fading from his face. Running his tongue across his inner cheek, his eyes darkened. "Maybe having a common enemy isn’t such a bad thing after all."
