Pampered by my three brothers: the return of the neglected heiress novel Chapter 434

Chapter 434: Angel’s only hope

"... I’ll have to make you."

Silence fell over the kitchen as neither spoke for a moment. Penny carefully stretched her fingers toward the cabinets beneath the counter, her palm resting on the edge of the sink. With her back facing Mark, she was careful not to alert him.

’He’s different from the others I’ve encountered,’ she thought, realizing this man wouldn’t let her go unless he was dead. ’I’ve met so many like him.’

Penny had bumped against death countless times, and she sensed that same aura from Mark. She knew he would kill her — this fight wouldn’t end with a simple injury.

The feeling was mutual for Mark.

Assessing her small frame, it was hard to believe that someone like her had caused so much damage to his men. Although Renny seemed to side with her for reasons he couldn’t comprehend, Mark had to give her credit — none of the men she fought were ordinary bodyguards or fighters.

’She’s no ordinary person,’ he thought, holding his breath, ready to strike if he sensed any movement from her. ’I can’t let my guard down.’

As the thought crossed his mind, every instinct in his body screamed a warning. Mark quickly raised his pistol and fired, only to hear a clang as the bullet struck a knife flying in his direction. Surprised by her swift reaction, his breath caught as he saw her slide under the counter.

BANG! BANG!

Two more shots rang out, aimed to stop her rather than kill her. He wasn’t trying to end her life — yet. But her movements were too quick, forcing Mark to fall back. She kicked a stool toward him, and he had to kick it away.

This brief diversion gave her enough time to move under the table, flipping it to use as a shield.

"Damn it..." he muttered, gritting his teeth as he fired more rounds, creating holes in the table. This time, he didn’t care if she ended up dead. He had seen the chaos she caused in the manor, and he couldn’t risk her reaching Zoren. Especially now that he was fighting her.

Mark could tell she was truly not a simple person.

BANG! BANG! CLACK!

The gun clicked empty. Mark swiftly reloaded, but as he did, he noticed something red dripping from the edge of the table.

’Did I hit her?’ he wondered, approaching cautiously. Even though it appeared she was down, he wasn’t the type to lower his guard.

Silence quickly followed with only the echoes of the fire bouncing off every corner of the walls. The air also felt thicker than usual, forcing him to listen to his own pounding heart and deep breaths.

A step from the table, he peered over to check. His brow furrowed deeply when he saw the source of the red liquid was from a gallon of ketchup that had spilled.

She wasn’t behind the table. Which meant...

Before Mark could process what was happening, his body reacted instinctively. He spun around, arms raised, just in time to block a punch from her left hand. Unfortunately, no matter how quickly he reacted, he couldn’t stop the elbow that slammed into his jaw.
