Pampered by my three brothers: the return of the neglected heiress novel Chapter 482

Chapter 482: Went back in time, you know?

Meanwhile...

Atlas and Hugo stood behind the one-way mirror, watching the interrogation with dark expressions. They had been there since the person who tried to stab Slater was captured, but that person hadn’t said a word for a while now.

Initially, the culprit had been talking, but everything he said was nonsense. He was simply diverting the conversation and purposely misleading the investigation. Now, he had completely shut down.

"Let me in," Hugo demanded, his eyes blazing as he gripped his shoulders. "I’ll make him talk."

His jaw tightened, and if his gaze could stab anything, the glass would have been shattered. He had been there long before Atlas, and his patience was wearing thin—very thin.

Though Atlas shared the same impatience as Hugo, he maintained a calm yet frosty front. "Hugo, patience."

"Some people talk after being coaxed, but others only speak when they know they’re about to cross the gates of hell," Hugo said, giving Atlas a look that made him seem like a beast about to devour anything in his way.

But Atlas was unfazed. "You’re not in a war zone, Hugo," he reminded him sternly, showing his second brother he wouldn’t back down. "Hurting him to make him talk isn’t admissible."

Hugo clenched his teeth and balled his hands into tight fists. He hissed through gritted teeth, clicking his tongue as he exhaled sharply.

"He’s not going to talk," Hugo said after suppressing the rising anger in his chest. "That much, I can guarantee."

Atlas didn’t bother responding. "If anyone wants to hurt him the most, that would be me," he confessed, his eyes icy compared to the blaze filling Hugo’s. "But if I want justice for my siblings, I have to exercise patience. Otherwise, you’d be doing all the work because I’d be on the other side of the glass, not here."

Hugo glanced at his older brother, noticing the slight tremble in Atlas’s shoulders. Never in his life had he seen Atlas tremble with anger. His brother was usually composed and indifferent, even as a child. He was responsible and always executed his tasks perfectly. Even when annoyed, Atlas wouldn’t show it.

That was why he was considered Charles’s perfect child.

But now... it was clear Atlas was holding onto the last thread of his patience. Seeing this calmed Hugo, who took a deep breath and lowered his head. He closed his eyes for a moment, and when he reopened them, he was composed again.

"They’ll keep him detained and continue questioning him for another twenty-four hours," Hugo said more calmly. "I don’t think we need to stay here."

He slowly cast a look at his brother. "They’ll let us know if he starts talking."

Since they weren’t the ones conducting the interrogation, there was little they could do at this point. Hugo could have easily gained access and interrupted the interrogation by pulling a few strings, but out of respect for Atlas, he refrained.

"First Brother," Hugo called, noticing Atlas was still fixated on the glass. "First—"

Hugo trailed off when Atlas raised a hand to silence him. Confused, he turned back to the one-way mirror, where they had been watching the culprit. Deep lines appeared on their brows as they noticed the man’s back tremble.

"Is he... is he laughing?" Hugo’s face twisted in disgust, taking the man’s reaction as mockery after almost stabbing Slater and injuring Penny. He balled his hands into tight fists again, his eyes nearly bloodshot.

"Hihihi!" The culprit’s giggles were low at first but gradually grew louder and louder. "Hahaha!"
