Zoren had quite the reputation among the elite, not for the obvious things he had done, but for his lack of interest in social gatherings. When people knew little about someone, their imaginations ran wild.
The few people in tonight’s gathering, however, had at least caught a glimpse of him before. Even so, he was someone they could never mistake for anyone else. That commanding aura, his demure presence, and the way he carried himself were unmistakable.
"That’s Zoren Pierson...?" someone in the crowd muttered under his breath, eyes almost glued to Zoren. "That’s... him?"
All this time, they thought that having Dean Pierson here was akin to having Zoren and the entire Pierson family present. After all, Dean Pierson was the face of the family. But who would have thought that seeing Zoren—especially for those who hadn’t even seen his shadow—would be an entirely different experience?
This man... this Zoren Pierson... wasn’t just the Pierson family. He was the Pierson family.
Hearing the whispers around him, Sven felt his knees wobble. He didn’t know this man initially, but after catching the hushed comments, he knew he was doomed.
"I..." Sven opened and closed his mouth, taking a step back, his eyes fixed on Zoren. "Mister... CEO Pierson?"
Zoren blinked ever so gently, tilting his head slightly. "Sven Bennet," he called, causing Sven’s breath to hitch.
’He knows me?’ Sven wondered, his heart racing. Normally, he would have assumed it was because of his own achievements, but right now, he didn’t have the luxury to assume anything.
How could he?
Staring into those dark eyes, Sven felt as though Zoren was deciding what sentence to give him. To his surprise, Zoren’s lips curled into a smile.
’What was that about?’ Sven wondered, taking another step back until he bumped into someone. A hand immediately pushed him to the ground.
"Hey!" Slater yelled, shoving Sven aggressively. "Why are you backing into me? Have you completely lost your mind?"
Sven froze as soon as he hit the floor, gazing up at the disgusted expression on Slater’s face. Slater didn’t even bother to hide his disdain. Looking around, Sven caught the dark expression on Hugo’s face and the unforgiving look in Penny’s eyes.
"What..." Sven trailed off, realizing everyone was looking down at him. Even the people he had been chatting with earlier—the ones who had been currying favor with him—were now sneering. His heart sank as if witnessing his world crumble before him.
"Tch!" Mr. Ito clicked his tongue bitterly as his eyes landed on Sven. "Now that I think about it, how could I have believed in a pathetic fool like you?"
