"Meet me today."
Atlas stopped signing some papers as he recalled Penny’s remarks from their ten-second phone call earlier that day. He pushed himself away from the desk, gazing at the papers in front of him.
"Sir, is everything alright?" Allen, Atlas’s assistant, inquired as he carefully served his boss a cup of coffee. "You seem a little distracted."
Atlas didn’t answer right away as he glanced at the coffee Allen was setting on the desk. "Penny called today and told me to meet her. Do I have any other important meetings at noon?"
"Well, you have a meeting with some of our investors."
"Move it to the afternoon."
"Sir—"
"I don’t like the tone my sister was using. It’s bothering me, so she comes first."
Hearing that, Allen didn’t argue anymore because he knew his boss well. If it was about family, especially his siblings, then nothing could ever change his mind.
"I’ll make the arrangements now." Allen lowered his head slightly before walking away from the office.
Meanwhile, Atlas remained seated in his position before spinning his swivel chair to face the floor-to-ceiling glass walls behind him. From here, he could see the port, surrounded by ships, machinery for unloading and loading, and containers.
"Why does it sound like an emergency?" he wondered to himself, his lips curling downward. "Did something happen during the board meeting at the Pierson Corporation?"
After all, today was the board meeting of the Pierson Corporation. If not for Zoren and Penny’s relationship, Atlas wouldn’t have known just how important and delicate today was for Zoren. He was aware that the Pierson family was complicated, but the more he learned about it, the more he understood that it was even more intricate than he had expected.
"I promised his grandmother," he whispered, staring in the same direction before he turned his chair around and reached for his intercom. "Hand me over some files about the current shipments. Penny wanted to see them."
Without waiting for Allen to reply, he withdrew his hand from the button and leaned back. Another shallow breath slipped past him, still bothered by the fact that Penny didn’t seem to be asking him just because she wanted to chat. It felt to him that she was asking for this meeting for a completely different reason.
Whatever it was, he would find out for sure.

A few hours later, Atlas arrived at the restaurant where Penny had told him to meet her. When he entered the private dining room, Penny was already there.
"This must be very important," he mused as he closed the door behind him, snapping her back from her thoughts. "What happened?"
Penny smiled as he sat down across from her. "Don’t worry. It’s no big deal."
"Your tone earlier and the face you’re making now tell me it is a big deal," he argued calmly, placing a folder on the side and sliding it toward her. "Here are the files you asked for. I wouldn’t normally show this to anyone, so be thankful you’re my sister."
"Hehe. I’m so grateful," she quipped, picking them up and flipping through the pages to skim through them. Her brows rose as she found them all too familiar before lifting her eyes to meet his. "You don’t show this to other people?"
Penny shook her head. "Turns out the shipping company is innocent. They were just being framed." freeweɓnovel.cѳm
