"Horrible" was an understatement to describe Penny’s cooking.
The food Penny prepared was inedible. It was not food. Everyone who took their first bite either hunched over or froze in horror. Each dish was either too bitter, too salty, too sweet, too spicy—or simply all of the above.
It reminded everyone of the saying, "Never judge a book by its cover." It applied perfectly to the food prepared by Penny.
Her cooking was traumatizing.
Meanwhile, Penny was all smiles, watching everyone tear up with each bite. She interpreted their reactions as a sign of good food. After all, she used to take big bites before swallowing whenever she enjoyed something.
"Hehe." She giggled, pleased that everyone was "enjoying" it, though she thought their tears were a little over the top. "Do you want more?"
Her question stopped everyone in their tracks, and she raised her brows as they all looked in her direction. Penny blinked and tilted her head, confused.
"Hmm?" she hummed, unaware of the growing fear and panic in their hearts.
All they could think was, hadn’t she noticed how they kept gulping down water with every bite? They couldn’t swallow her food without it.
They couldn’t bear another bite. Let alone have seconds.
Asking for seconds would be their undoing! But if they said anything, Penny might suspect something was wrong.
"I..." Benjamin trailed off as Penny suddenly felt a vibration in her apron pocket.
Penny took out her phone and glanced at the screen before flashing everyone a grin. "I’ll just take this call. I’ll be back, okay?"
With that, Penny skipped out of the dining room. Everyone followed her with their eyes, ensuring she was gone before they expressed their true feelings. ƒгeewebnovёl.com
"This... this isn’t food," one of the guards groaned, resting his hand on the table. "I can’t take another bite."
Another man bent over, his face etched in horror. "Why am I being punished like this? Does she hate us?"
Someone at the table wept openly, sniffling and wiping his eyes with his sleeve. What he had tasted was so spicy it felt as if she’d poured an entire bottle of chili oil into the dish. It was as if he were eating raw red chilis.
"Huhuhu!" Benjamin sobbed, looking at Zoren as though he’d been betrayed. "Sir, why did you do this? Please, don’t eat anymore—wait, you’re finished?!"
Slater looked traumatized as he stared at Zoren’s empty plate. Unlike everyone else, Zoren had elegantly finished his meal, wiping the corner of his mouth with a cloth.
"Did you... did you eat something different?" Slater blurted, catching everyone’s attention. "How could you eat all that without reacting?"
"Boss, don’t tell me she ruined all these dishes except yours?" Angel added, unable to fathom how Zoren had kept a straight face while eating. This was why everyone had been crying and praising Penny, hoping to hide their dismay.
"You all said the food was good," Zoren remarked, placing his hands on the table to push himself up. "Don’t waste it."
He stood up, but as he did, he almost lost his balance. Zoren gripped the table, his head hanging low, feeling his knees wobble uncontrollably.
"I will never let love kill me," he muttered to himself, unaware that he’d said it aloud. "This is just a challenge I have to overcome."
