[Summit School of Excellence]
When Penny and Slater returned to the open court, they stopped as soon as they arrived. Deep lines appeared between their brows as they looked around at the audience, who were oddly silent for some reason.
"What’s going on?" Slater blurted out under his breath. "If I didn’t know better, I’d think we just walked into a church."
That’s how quiet the place was.
"Did something—"
"Woahhh!!!"
Penny and Slater jumped from their spot in surprise as the entire court shook with everyone’s united cheering. Their eyes widened in horror and confusion. Looking around the court, they saw that everyone had returned to cheering as if nothing had just happened.
"What is going on...?" Penny trailed off, her eyes drifting to the open court. As she did, she couldn’t help but glance at the scoreboard, which immediately explained why everyone had suddenly quieted and then cheered so loudly.
The score was... a tie again.
"Huh?" Slater scrunched up his nose in dismay. "What happened here while we were away?"
Penny thought the same. With the same curiosity swirling in their heads, Penny and Slater made their way back to their spot as Charles’s team called a timeout. When they sat down, Penny turned to her left and right, then behind, as Benjamin crawled his way back to his seat.
"What happened?" she asked curiously. "How come the score is tied again? Something interesting happened?"
Nina pursed her lips, looking at Penny with a complicated expression. Seeing this, Penny furrowed her brows and turned to Haines. To her surprise, Haines’s expression was dark as well. Slater, on the other hand, saw his uncle’s expression and faced James squarely.
James’s expression was blank, as if he had just lost his mind or couldn’t process what he’d just witnessed. However, James was neither Haines nor Nina, so Slater flicked the tip of his ear to snap him back to reality.
"Ah!" James quickly covered his ear, looking at Slater in disbelief. "Slater! Why would you do that?"
"Your mouth was open, and I saw a fly almost flying in," Slater returned shamelessly. "I just care about you and your health. A fly lands on anything but clean, and who knows what kind of bacteria it’s carrying in your mouth?"
James frowned deeply. "Nonsense!"
"I know, but what happened here?" Slater asked nonchalantly. "Why do you look like you guys are pissed off?"
"It’s because this match has become something else," Haines breathed out under his breath, making Penny and Slater look back at him. "It’s not Max’s team versus Hugo’s team. It’s Hugo’s team versus... Hugo’s team."
Slater and Penny furrowed his brows, and they both blurted out, "Huh?" in unison.
"Penny, is your marriage alright?" Nina inquired, tugging at Penny’s hand. "Otherwise, why is your husband sabotaging you?"
"Renren is sabotaging me? How?"
"Miss Penny, divorce him and ask for a ridiculous amount—no, half of everything in his name. Better yet, ask for a divorce and take everything he has!" Benjamin roared, resting his arms on Penny’s backrest.
