Another moment of silence reigned in the dining room as no one uttered a single word. Charles’s eyes continued to widen as his mouth fell open.
"No, I’m not! I used to be married, but then she left to the ether!" Wild roared, in utter disbelief, as he was being put in this line of virgins. "Also, my wife is beautiful. At least, when we were together, she was beautiful!"
But alas, everything Wild said quickly faded into the thickening silence in the air. No one cared because everyone’s attention was on Charles’s son. Setting his eyes on them, his face scrunched up in dismay.
"You’re saying... none of you have dated before?" fɾēewebnσveℓ.com
"I did!" Hugo was quick to answer, almost as if he were forced to do so. "I once had this thing with the doctor at our base."
Jessa arched her brow as she replied, "Really?"
"Yes, really!" Hugo nodded. "She takes care of me, and I protect her from any harm!"
"How did the two of you break up, and how come no one heard about this story before?"
"Penny heard about it!" he panicked. "We broke up because... well, I don’t think we broke up. My injuries healed, so she stopped seeing me. I let her be because... I can still protect her if I fight for the country."
Everyone: "..."
Was Hugo saying he was dating all the men and women in Anteca because he was fighting for them as well?
As for Hugo’s defense, he had dated before. At least, he talked to some women in the past whom he was attracted to. However, he was also aware that, as a soldier, he couldn’t commit to another relationship. Heck, he couldn’t even see his family for months, sometimes years. How could he let another person wait for him or, worse, give her anxiety about whether or not he could come back? Thus, it was never Hugo’s priority.
This could be true for his other brothers as well.
Jessa shook her head in disbelief while Wild snorted. They were so rendered speechless by Hugo’s answer that they wondered if Hugo was simply trying to bring up a pathetic lie, hoping they would buy it, or if the concept of dating was something his thick brain hadn’t fully processed yet.
"I have tons of admirers!" This time, it was Slater who spoke. "With this beauty, I don’t think finding a partner will be hard. Just look at me — handsome, smart, and youthful!"
"I don’t question the first and last one, but the second one?" Jessa muttered, her voice only audible to Wild, who was seated beside her.
"This kid..." Wild shook his head. "Being beautiful doesn’t mean it’ll be easy. If it were that easy, I would’ve found a second and third wife by now."
He was... a dick — used to be.
’Why does Aunt Jessa and Dad have to make it sound like being a virgin is such a shameful thing?’ he mumbled in his mind. ’I am not a virgin! At least, this soul isn’t as pure anymore.’
’Right...’ Zoren decided to close his mouth. ’I don’t think her father or her brothers are prepared to hear what I do to his daughter and their sister. I guess her brothers think that Penny and I are just housemates and don’t do anything naughty.’
