After Verian got out of the hotel, she no longer had any mood left to have fun in the water. So, she sat under a huge tree while getting blown by the cool sea breeze. Zack, who had just finished surfing, noticed her from a distance and walked toward her.
She was currently lost in her mind. She was startled by Zack after he patted her.
“Why were you walking so silently? You startled me.”
“I was walking so loudly. It’s you that’s too lost in your thoughts.”
Zack sat next to her and noticed her depressed mood. He asked, “Why are you not happy? You’re not happy even when you’re able to go for a vacation?”
“Let me ask you this, Zack. If a man’s heart housed another girl, would he still be able to accept a new relationship?”
“This would depend on the situation though. For instance, if that lady was already married or not. If she has, then for sure he will purge that thought. If the lady in my heart has absolutely no feelings toward me, I will obviously look for a new relationship since I can’t just not get married for the rest of my life because of a single girl, right?”
Verian clutched her chin as if pondering something.
Zack then nudged her shoulder with his and said, “Were you fighting with your boyfriend? Where is he? Why was it only you that came out alone?”
“He… He wasn’t feeling too well. He’s resting in the hotel.”
Zack was completely unconvinced as he said, “Verian, I’m only telling you this because I think you and I are pretty compatible. Based on male intuition, I feel like your boyfriend doesn’t love you as much as you love him and he’s quite cold to you. Besides, he seems pretty difficult to get along with.”
Verian was stunned as even a freshly met stranger was able to tell Heaton did not like her that much?
She bit her lips and said, “It’s not like that. He only has a cold personality but in the absence of strangers, he’s actually quite warm to me.”
“Really? I can’t tell.”
Verian nervously gulped and asked hesitantly, “You think we’re incompatible?”
Zack nodded honestly. “Yeah, a little. I feel like he doesn’t like you that much. This isn’t how a normal couple should act though. Which couple would require the female party to be extremely cautious around the male party during a meal?”
It seemed even Zack could tell she was acting cautiously by Heaton’s side. Depressed, she said, “He makes me feel distant with him but sometimes, I can feel that he actually likes me a little. However, there are other times where I feel he doesn’t like me at all. Say, am I being a little too forward and clingy that it makes him unappreciative toward me?”
“A forward girl is good and although this is now an era of modern democracy and freedom, if a woman happens to be too clingy, it’ll cause the man to not appreciate her at all. Anything that is unobtainable is what a man considers best. You made him feel like you’re easy to get and this causes him to lose interest. However, there’s actually a reason he’s acting so distant with you. That’s because he thinks you’re unimportant to him.”
Verian’s tiny face grew gloomier as she looked toward the nearby sea and its sandy shores, holding up her chin as she mumbled, “Then, what should I do to get him to like me?”
“Well, about that, it can’t be forced. Instead of sulking here, why don’t you join me and have fun? It’s not everyday you can come over to Regent island. You’re not planning to waste your time here moping, are you?”
Before Verian could answer, Zack immediately held onto her hand and led her to the ticket booths.
…
After Heaton hung up Yanni’s call, his heart felt as if an old wound had been reopened.
He took a look at the time and realized Verian had already been gone for an hour.
When he called her, she did not pick up even after the call rang for a really long time. Heaton’s expression dimmed.
…
When evening arrived, Verian and Zack were completely soaked when they returned to the hotel.
Heaton was clutching his cell phone and was just about to step out of the hotel’s main lobby to look for her when he noticed both Verian and Zack were joking and laughing together at a not-so-distant spot.
The evening sun shone on their faces and the more wholesome they seemed in Heaton’s eyes, the more it stung him.
