Chapter 73: ’Let me...’

’This is it. I can do this. I can... do this.’ Florian thought, his heart pounding violently against his ribs as he walked alongside Levi. The sound of their footsteps felt too loud in the eerie silence of the hideout. Levi had come back for him after freshening up, his expression unreadable but his actions steady.

He had already assured Florian that the emergency exit was open and ready, that he had left subtle marks on the walls to guide him.

Florian didn’t know how to thank him enough. Escaping was only step one—after that, he had to figure out where to go. And for that, he needed to be prepared. He gripped the makeshift fork and spear he had crafted, noting Levi’s raised brow when he caught sight of them.

"I knew it. I could’ve sworn I gave you a fork," Levi muttered, eyeing the crude weaponry.

Florian could only offer a small, knowing smile. "I told you I had a plan."

Levi scoffed but didn’t argue, watching as Florian quickly hid the ’weapons’ beneath his clothes. His stomach twisted with nerves, but there was no turning back now.

Well, ready as he’d ever be.

There was one more thing he needed from Charles, and that was why Florian couldn’t just run away yet.

The map.

Charles carried a map of the entire area, extending all the way to the exit of the Dead Forest. Not only that, but the map was enchanted—it could detect human life within its range. If Florian didn’t have it, he’d be wandering blindly, vulnerable to both the dangers of the forest and the rogues hunting him down. He needed that map to avoid them.

Another priority was making sure Charles and the others had no way of tracking him and Levi once they were gone.

Florian was sure the map was in one of Charles’ pockets. If not, then somewhere on his person. He had to get Charles to remove his clothes—only then could he retrieve it once he stabbed him.

And for that to happen...

He had to go to great lengths.

Lengths he never thought he’d have to.

’I hope this works... because if not...’ Florian clenched his fists as he and Levi neared the lounge. His stomach twisted at the thought. ’Then I would’ve used this body for nothing.’

"Are you ready?" Levi whispered beside him, his hand gripping the oak door, preparing to push it open.

"No," Florian admitted, his voice barely above a breath. But he didn’t back away. Levi gave him a brief, sympathetic glance before nodding.

"Just please... you know what to do," Florian urged, voice steady despite the cold dread creeping up his spine.

Levi hesitated for a fraction of a second, then smirked slightly. "Okay, Your Highness."

Florian blinked in surprise. It was the first time Levi had addressed him like that—with full respect, no sarcasm lacing his tone.

Before Florian could react, the door creaked open, revealing Charles sitting at the worn-out table, leaning back in his chair, a half-filled glass of whiskey in his grip. His eyes were sharp despite the drink, and the moment he saw Florian, a smirk crept across his face.

"There you are, Little Prince."

’Fuck. I’m not ready for this.’

Florian forced himself to step forward, mustering what little courage he had left. "Here I am." His voice came out smoother than he expected, but his fingers trembled slightly as he glanced around the room. The once-crowded lounge was now empty—no rogues, not even Arthur. His stomach churned. "S-So we finally have the hideout to ourselves?"

"Almost." Charles’ gaze flickered to Levi, narrowing slightly. "You better not have touched him before I could, Levi."

Levi stiffened for a moment, his shoulders tightening. He shook his head quickly. "I wouldn’t dare, Leader." free𝑤ebnovel.com

"Good." Charles’ voice dipped into something darker, something that sent an icy chill crawling up Florian’s spine. He stood from his chair and made his way over, slow and deliberate, like a predator savoring the moment before the kill.

Once in front of Florian, he wrapped his arms around him.

Florian had to bite back a grimace.

"...We’ll be busy," Charles murmured, his lips too close to Florian’s ear.

Florian still found it hard to believe the stark difference in Charles’ demeanor. Earlier, there had been restraint, a semblance of control, but now... he was exactly as the novel had described him. Depraved. Dangerous.

’Fuck. This... this feels wrong.’

’I have to endure it. Just a little longer.’

’Just a little longer.’

Florian inhaled deeply, steeling himself against the nausea twisting in his gut. ’Alright... just like how Kaz wrote it. Just like those damn scenes I helped edit.’ He swallowed thickly, forcing his body to relax as he placed his hands on Charles’ chest, pushing him back ever so slightly.
