Chapter 139: Chapter 139: Giving Favors
Liang Wei was truly grateful.
His wife had been bitten to death by zombies when the apocalypse broke out, leaving only him and his two children. Liang Jiuqing, harboring hatred for zombies due to her mother’s death, ignored his pleas and insisted on joining every mission, big or small. Although he was worried each time, he felt powerless. His eldest son wasn’t around either, and he had started to feel overwhelmed. If anything were to happen to Jiuqing now, he feared he might not be able to hold on.
“You’re too kind. We’re trying to make a living in S City, so it’s only natural that we should do something for it,” Su Jin said diplomatically. She neither wanted to take credit nor let Liang Wei humble himself too much, given he was still a trusted leader.
“Don’t say that. As a token of my thanks, those zombies’ Crystal Cores from earlier are yours,” Liang Wei said, though the gesture was somewhat painful, he believed it was deserved by the two of them.
“Thank you, Mayor Liang, but we don’t want the Crystal Cores. I think you could make the most use out of them,” Su Jin declined.
Liang Jiuqing and the group behind her widened their eyes upon hearing Su Jin decline; they were actually refusing the Crystal Cores?
It was recently discovered that the Crystal Cores were very precious, even an Ordinary Crystal Core, not to mention there were several, including some from Mutated Zombies.
“Xiao Jin is right, you have many missions, and you need those Crystal Cores more,” Lu Hao also expressed his stance.
Seeing the two adamantly refusing, Liang Wei nodded in agreement and regarded them with even greater respect. He planned to ask Jiuqing in detail about these two when he got back.
However, something did sting Liang Wei; neither of these two lived in the safe refuge. His refuge had been a desired place for everyone since the apocalypse began. He had heard that these two, along with their family and teammates, also were unwilling to live in the safe refuge. Could it be that his refuge wasn’t good enough?
But then he thought about their unfathomable strength and felt relieved; if they feared no danger, it was certainly better to live in a villa district like Dragon Leap Villa with their family.
A family, he thought as he looked at his daughter beside him. Her swollen eyes made her look somewhat childish, but perhaps due to dust and sweat, her naturally not so delicate face was filthy dirty, like a little dog that had just crawled out of a mud pit.
But, it was good, his daughter was fine. A feeling of having survived a catastrophe made Liang Wei momentarily lost in thought. Was he being too anxious?
…
After saying goodbye to Liang Wei and Liang Jiuqing, Su Jin and Lu Hao found their car and prepared to head back to the villa district.
The car was covered in small stones and dust. When Su Jin opened the door, Local Tyrant Gold leaped into her arms, afraid of being shut in again.
Su Jin smiled and let him sit on her lap to play for a while. Once Lu Hao had fastened his seatbelt, she prepared to start the car and head back.
“So you’re saying that Liang Wei’s son is going to be the future leader of the base?” Lu Hao’s expression changed slightly, no wonder Xiao Jin had that reaction earlier.
“Yes, I’m now thinking that if we hadn’t arrived to detonate the bomb, their lives might have been in much more danger today,” Su Jin reflected.
For some reason, thinking back on Liang Wei and his daughter’s situation today reminded her of today’s zombie tide. Perhaps, in some way, her return may have also changed their fates!
“It’s very likely. There were quite a lot of zombies earlier,” Lu Hao recalled.
Recalling their earlier experience, Su Jin felt a sense of poignancy; they had managed to kill so many zombies for the first time. It was also thanks to that plane and the soldiers who sacrificed themselves that so many zombies were drawn together, otherwise, they wouldn’t have achieved such a good explosive effect.
“But thinking about those Crystal Cores, it really hurts…” Su Jin felt somewhat regretful at that moment.
What was she putting on earlier, acting like a tough guy?
“I think it was worth it,” Lu Hao said, smiling as he comforted Su Jin. He thought all those Crystal Cores, in exchange for such a huge favor, was not a bad deal. Besides, those selfless soldiers also deserved those Crystal Cores.
Listening to Lu Hao’s thoughts, Su Jin felt a bit better. Their gains today were indeed substantial; they had collected many cold weapons in Antique City, especially Lu Hao’s Tang Sword. The scene of him wielding it to fight zombies still echoed in her mind.
Because, it was just so cool…
The moment Lu Hao picked up the Tang Sword in the antique shop, she felt like her old fangirl tendencies hadn’t surfaced in ages were flaring up again.
