Rebirth: Leading Families to Survive in the Apocalypse novel Chapter 191

Chapter 191 -191: North Mountain Hunting

After saying goodbye to several people, Su Jin and her group continued to drive forward.

The road to North Mountain became increasingly difficult, but thanks to their high-performance armored vehicle, after having run over countless zombies, they finally arrived at the foothills of North Mountain in the afternoon.

Before the apocalypse, North Mountain had always been a local nature reserve. A high iron fence surrounded its base, and the shocking blood stains on it, along with some dried human corpses on the ground nearby, indicated that there might have been incidents of zombies or mutant animals injuring people here.

Local Tyrant Gold climbed onto Lu Hao’s shoulder as soon as he got out of the car, wearing the bright red and deep blue outfit made by Mrs. Su, which made it look quite conspicuous.

“There’s no one around,” Mao Qiqi said.

Su Jin nodded, stored the armored vehicle in her space, and they faced the mountain path ahead. The road was densely forested, making it impossible for the armored vehicle to enter. Moreover, they were uncertain about their exact exit from the mountain, so storing the armored vehicle in her space was the most appropriate choice.

The dark mountains stood silently before everyone. Nie Qing walked right at the front, having lived in the mountains for most of his life, he felt a sense of familiarity here.

Seeing this, Su Jin and the others followed suit.

The sunlight at three o’clock in the afternoon was still plentiful, but once they entered the forest, they noticed the light suddenly dimmed a lot, and there was always a mist, seeming almost imperceptible, floating before their eyes.

“Qiqi, can you sense how many mutant beasts are on this mountain?” Lin Xiuyuan asked curiously. If Qiqi could sense them, their mission would be much simpler— they could head straight to the lair of the mutant beasts.

“Since we came in, I haven’t been able to feel anything. It’s like… something is blocking me?” Mao Qiqi said with a frown. She had been able to sense nearby zombies at the foot of the mountain, but since coming up here, nothing showed on her mini-map. Once they entered here, she could not even see the zombies near the foot of the mountain anymore.

“That’s normal, don’t worry. Mountains like Spirit Mountain will have their inherent miasma, which doesn’t affect the animals and plants in the mountain, but it’s not so friendly to outsiders who enter,” Nie Qing explained. He could sense the seemingly nonexistent fog before them, but there was nothing he could do about it. Unless they stayed here for a decade or eight years, the miasma wouldn’t go away.

Mao Qiqi nodded. Though she was still not used to lacking the mini-map’s functionality, she felt that it added to the excitement of the adventure.

“Be careful!”

Su Jin was walking when suddenly Lu Hao pulled her into his embrace. She looked up only to see that she was about to step on a green snake as thick as a wrist!

“Gross!”

Lin Xiuyuan also stepped back a few steps. The green snake’s scales were still shimmering with a viscous glow as it moved slowly, which was quite disgusting.

Huang Yunxiang and Su Jin were also grossed out. It seemed like women were innately afraid of such creatures.

Lu Hao immediately used his fire ability to burn the snake to a crisp. The green snake didn’t resist much, which everyone found quite strange, until Su Jin noticed some broken egg shells on the ground.

Was this snake just a baby that had crawled out of an eggshell?

No wonder its scales still had some mucus on them, but were snake babies this big? Could it be that the mutation had occurred inside the eggshell?

Not until the green snake was reduced to ashes and they found a quail egg-sized beast core on the ground did they dare to confirm, this newly hatched snake baby had already mutated!

“Master, it seems you’ve done something unthinkable…” Nie Qing remarked, looking at the broken eggshells on the ground.

“Hmm?” Lu Hao was puzzled.

Just then, Local Tyrant Gold on Lu Hao’s shoulder suddenly started chirping loudly, then shrank into Lu Hao’s embrace as if its fur had exploded.

“Be ready, even if we run, we can’t outrun it,” Nie Qing seemed to have sensed something.

“You you you, don’t say it so frighteningly, what’s coming this way?” Lu Guanhai huddled closer to Su Xiangzhe in fright.

“If I’m not mistaken, the mother of this snake is about to arrive soon,” answered Nie Qing.

“That doesn’t sound right. As far as I know, snakes are cold-blooded, and young snakes can grow up on their own after birth. I’ve never heard of a mother snake protecting her young,” Lin Xiuyuan recalled the little he knew about snakes.

“Did I say it was protecting its young? What if it just wants to eat us?”

As soon as Nie Qing finished speaking, everyone felt the fallen leaves on the ground rustle accompanied by the sound of trembling.

“It’s coming, be careful,” Lu Hao warned.

Su Jin noticed that although Lu Hao had a poor sense of direction, his intuition for danger was quite accurate, just like the snake that had fallen earlier. She hadn’t felt anything, but Lu Hao had pulled her back in time.

But now was not the time to think about these things because, following the direction of the strongest tremors, they saw a dark green giant python with its huge mouth wide open, swiftly flying towards them!

Indeed, it was flying over, whether it was because of its special ability or just its extremely fast movement. Seeing this python, which was even thicker than the surrounding adult trees, everyone momentarily forgot to use their special abilities and instinctively dodged to the side.

“Ew, even nastier. It’s like a piece of poop, the kind that hasn’t digested well,” Lin Xiuyuan covered his nose, not pretending, because there really was a very pungent smell assaulting their noses.

“Can you not talk about that,” Huang Yunxiang’s expression was indescribable, after all, the snake really did look like a big lump of dark green poop.

“Aim for the snake’s weakest point, focus the attack there,” Lu Hao had already entered combat mode.

The giant python opened its massive mouth and hissed again, its mouth revealing a crimson forked tongue. Seeing these people surrounding it, it began to thrash its tail to sweep at them!

Nie Qing leaped into the air, striking it at its vital spot with a Wind Blade.

After Ye Qianli finished what she had to do, she felt like she came back to life and sighed. Her voice was like a lazy cat that had just eaten its fill, containing an indescribable charm and mellowness.

She sat up and was about to put on her clothes, but when she got a clear view of the man whom she had ‘finished off’, her movements froze for a moment because of that pair of eyes on him.

Silver eyes.

A pair of eyes as bright as the moon shone in his silver eyes. However, it did not seem strange or sinister. Instead, it gave off an elegant and distant charm.

Apart from this pair of striking silver eyes, his facial features were also extremely outstanding, like they were exquisitely carved from fine jade of the highest quality. Just looking at him made one feel cool and comfortable.

His inky black eyebrows were like dyed paintings, his nose bridge was high and straight, and his lips were plump and sexy. Especially after being nibbled on by her, they seemed even more beautiful and alluring, simply making one’s heart pound by looking.

Just based on looks alone, he was undoubtedly a handsome man!
