Chapter 60: Chapter 60 Coordination
Lu Hao frowned; the young man’s position was just above the grape trellis at an angle, clearly giving him a view of the entire yard. The three of them had walked a significant distance from the entrance to the grape trellis, and through that time, the young man hadn’t warned them about the zombie on the trellis.
Regardless of whether it was intentional or not, the man upstairs only dared to come out after the three of them had eliminated all the zombies, revealing he was a person who valued his life greatly and feared death.
Therefore, Lu Hao didn’t respond to the young man. Seeing that Lu Hao remained silent, Lin Cheng and Lin Xiuyuan also kept quiet, while the cries for help from upstairs continued.
Lu Hao hesitated for a moment but still led Lin Cheng and his son up the stairs to check the situation. The zombies in the alley could be eliminated one by one; ignoring them might lead to the evolution of more powerful zombies, which could be detrimental to the family’s safety.
The three of them estimated that there were only two zombies on the second floor, both congregated by the young man’s door. The off-white wooden door was scratched with bloodstains, creating a terrifying sight.
Lu Hao thought of his family waiting for them at home, so he drew the handgun from his waist and shot both zombies in the head, killing them instantly. His marksmanship was extremely precise: two zombies, two bullets.
Lin Xiuyuan proactively stepped forward and used the Watermelon Knife to cut open the zombies’ heads, but sadly, he did not find any Crystal Cores.
Seeing Lin Xiuyuan shake his head, Lu Hao also put away his handgun, ready to turn around and leave.
At that moment, the bloodstained wooden door opened. The young man who had been crying for help looked at the dispatched zombies on the ground with disgust, carefully avoiding the blood as he walked over.
He looked at the three of them; it was evident that Lu Hao was the strongest, so he knelt down before Lu Hao, still crying and shouting, “Thank you, thank you, my life was saved by you.”
Lu Hao remained silent. The two dead zombies were a man and woman, the man a white-haired old granddad, the woman young and of similar age to the young man. Moreover, it was clear from the couple t-shirts that the woman zombie and the young man were lovers, so Lu Hao deduced that this woman was the young man’s girlfriend.
The living room was filled with signs of struggle, indicating that the two zombies weren’t transformed simultaneously. It’s likely that one was infected with the Zombie Virus, while the other was assimilated after being bitten. This was further evidenced by a piece of flesh missing from the female zombie’s neck, along with the claw marks and a large amount of blood that had terrifyingly splattered all over the young man’s door.
Hence, Lu Hao concluded that the girl had a lengthy fight with the elderly zombie in the upstairs hall, during which her boyfriend had locked the door tightly. She had screamed and pleaded for him to open the door, even scratching her fingers bloody, but due to fear, he did not choose to open it. In the end, the girl was caught by the male zombie due to her exhaustion and had her throat bitten open right at her boyfriend’s doorstep, the blood splattering onto the door…
Throughout this ordeal, the young man, now crying in gratitude, never opened the door for his girlfriend.
If the two had fought together against the elderly male zombie, maybe they might have escaped, but the man before them only looked out for himself, leaving his girlfriend out in the cold.
Lu Hao had seen many crime scenes, so he could deduce the entire sequence of events with just one look. However, Lin Cheng and his son were completely unaware and were still comforting the kneeling man, assuring him there was no need to be afraid anymore.
The man on the ground continued to kneel and even begged the three to take him with them.
Lin Cheng and Lin Xiuyuan were quite speechless; they were here to kill zombies, not to be part of a rescue team, and with Lu Hao’s demeanor so cold, they certainly didn’t want to get involved with this trouble.
“The zombies in this house have been dealt with by us; you are safe now,” Lin Cheng advised.
“But their bodies are still here; how could I possibly stay here? Please, I beg of you, take me with you. I’d do anything, even be a beast of burden,” the young man continued to plead.
“We are going to kill zombies in the street; do you want to come along?” Lu Hao said coldly.
“Kill, kill zombies?” The young man was stunned; why would they go out to the streets to kill zombies? Shouldn’t they be looking for a safe place to hide at a time like this?
“Can you leave one person to protect me? I can wait and leave with you,” the young man asked.
Lin Xiuyuan was even more speechless, and Lu Hao had already walked towards the stairwell, clearly not wanting to deal with this man. Lin Xiuyuan pulled Lin Cheng along, saying as they walked down, “Then just stay here by yourself and wait. Once we have finished off all the zombies on the street, we will come back to get you, okay?”
Lu Hao shared his speculation with Lin Cheng and his son, and upon hearing it, both fell silent. It never crossed their minds that they had actually saved an ingrate. Thankfully, they hadn’t agreed to the man’s request just now, and for the first time, they realized how fragile human nature is when faced with danger. ƒrēewebnoѵёl.cσm
