They never expected that someone would actually steal that gem. After all, it was just a fake gem.
"It's strange. Nothing else was stolen, but they specifically stole that gem. Could it be someone who had their eye on it before? Luckily, you sold the real one earlier. Otherwise, it could've been a big problem!" James explained, pretending to know nothing.
"Forget about it. It's just a fake anyway," Serena said reassuringly.
"Ugh, but I still needed that gem for something. How could someone steal it?" Hayden scratched his head, visibly helpless.
The whole family knew that it was a fake gem, so no one cared much about it. Who would have thought that the real gem would remain untouched, but the fake gem would get stolen?
"What did you need the gem for? Should I call the police to recover it?" James' tone grew serious at the mention of its importance.
He would have stopped the theft if he had known the gem was useful. But Hayden had bought a fake gem at that time and had even mentioned it to the family.
James had assumed it was just something that looked real, meant purely for display. After all, what boy at Hayden's age didn't like to show off?
"There's no need to call the police. Let's just leave it." Hayden sighed, shaking his head.
After all, it was just a fake gem. If they investigated and traced it back to Benjamin, it could cause trouble for him.
Besides, he still had to see him again. He needed to get another fake gem to give to the Sterling family tomorrow.
"Alright, you can make the decision yourself. But if there's anything you can't handle, let me know in advance. You must tell me," James said sincerely.
"I got it!" Hayden nodded firmly, speaking with determination.
