Chapter 22 -22: It’s Really Karma
Back at school.
Lin Zhiyi pushed open the dormitory door; her roommates were still out, apparently, they had said in the group chat that they were going for interviews.
She opened her own cupboard, looked at the things inside, and squinted her eyes slightly.
Just as she was about to reach for something, a voice sounded from behind.
“Zhiyi.”
Lin Zhiyi lowered her hand, turned around, and Shen Yan rushed in front of her, slapping her own face frantically.
“Zhiyi, I’m so sorry!”
“It’s all my fault because I was terrified of being poor. Journalist Chen said he just needed to use your account to say a few words, and I believed him.”
“You know my mom always looked down on me for wasting money on university, that’s why I was fooled. Please have some pity.”
While slapping herself, Shen Yan was guilt-tripping Lin Zhiyi.
Lin Zhiyi didn’t respond and pretended to be stunned, watching as Shen Yan slapped herself repeatedly.
Shen Yan dared not stop despite her anger.
Not until her face turned red from the slapping did Lin Zhiyi intervene.
“Stop hitting yourself, it’s too late for anything you say now.”
She lowered her gaze and touched her injured hand.
Shen Yan’s eyes sparkled: “Zhiyi, what happened? Did you hurt your hand so badly you can’t compete?”
Lin Zhiyi gave her a glance and deliberately sighed.
“The doctor said it would be very difficult for my hand to regain its former agility, I might have trouble even participating in the competition.”
As she spoke, she let her hand fall weakly.
From the corner of her eye, she saw Shen Yan’s gloating smirk.
The next second, Shen Yan switched to a look of concern: “Zhiyi, don’t think too much.”
“Mhm,” Lin Zhiyi forced a smile and changed the subject, “I’m a bit tired, I’ll rest for now.”
Shen Yan nodded and left.
Watching her leave, Lin Zhiyi leaned against the pillow and smiled.
Shen Yan would surely go and tattle to Song Wanqiu.
That was exactly what she wanted.
With the competition imminent, she didn’t want to make any more mistakes.
Releasing a smoke grenade at the right moment was the key to delivering the most fatal blow to Song Wanqiu.
…
The weekend.
Lin Zhiyi returned to the Gong Family’s home.
As she entered, two figures alighted from the car beside her:
Madam of the Gong family, Chen Sulan.
Gong Family’s eldest grandson, Gong Yan.
Chen Sulan was dressed in her uniquely simple and elegant style, wearing only an antique jadeite ring on her finger, with no other accessories.
It was said that the ring was a token of her engagement with Mr. Gong, which she never took off once she had put it on.
Alas, that person was no longer here.
Lin Zhiyi stepped forward: “Madam.”
Chen Sulan smiled and nodded: “You always keep your distance, it’s getting impersonal.”
“It’s necessary.”
With that, Gong Yan approached Lin Zhiyi.
“Zhiyi, how’s your hand feeling?”
Lin Zhiyi looked up to see Gong Yan’s handsome and refined face.
He was dressed in a light grey suit, looking quite dignified.
