Lin Zhiyi washed her hands and was about to roll up her sleeves to help Liu He when Gong Shiyan walked in, having taken off his coat.
"Alright, you two go and eat something on the side; I’ll watch over things here."
"Thank you, Husband." Liu He’s eyes crinkled with a smile.
"Thank you, Uncle."
Lin Zhiyi took two bowls of soup and sat down at the small table to drink.
The soup made from expensive herbs really was different.
Liu He and Gong Shiyan were affectionate for a while before they came over. As soon as they sat down, they took the soup from Lin Zhiyi’s hand and gulped it all down.
"I’m so thirsty, and I’ve found out everything for you."
"Inquired? Mom, what did I ask you to inquire about?" Lin Zhiyi asked, astonished.
"Sang Ran."
Perhaps out of curiosity, Lin Zhiyi didn’t interrupt Liu He.
Liu He whispered, "Sang Ran is the young Miss of Hai City’s esteemed Sang Family. She and Lao San attended the same university abroad. When Lao San had a car accident overseas, she was the one who rescued him just before the explosion and ended up losing a limb herself." fɾeewebnoveℓ.co๓
"When she was brought to the hospital, Song Wanqiu, who was also abroad, happened to see her and switched their identity information. That’s why Lao San thought that Song Wanqiu was the person who saved him."
"She’s been doing rehabilitation overseas these years. Lao San’s engagement to Song Wanqiu went unnoticed, and people thought he had finally found the woman he liked, so he didn’t return to the country."
"Only when the incident with Song Wanqiu blew up in the social circles did she learn the whole story, and that’s why she rushed back immediately to recognize Lao San."
"Although she’s disabled now, her presence and confidence really aren’t something the average person can match."
Liu He couldn’t help but start praising her as she talked.
It was clear that Sang Ran wasn’t the pretentious type like Song Wanqiu.
Lin Zhiyi pursed her lips, her face devoid of color for a long time.
After some time, a maid hurried over.
"Second Madam, they’re almost done eating in front; is it time to serve the fruit platter?"
"Already finished?"
Liu He looked surprised, then glanced at the two small bowls in front of her, feeling awkward.
She had diligently prepared a family banquet, but she hadn’t even had a chance to sit down to the table.
Seeing the distress on her face, Lin Zhiyi patted her hand. "Mom, I’ll take care of the fruit platter; you should rest because of your back."
Liu He didn’t object.
Lin Zhiyi checked that the fruit platters on the small plates were arranged correctly and placed them one by one on the serving cart, then headed to the dining room with a maid.
Standing at the doorway, she could just see the scene inside.
Old Mr. Gong was not his usual reserved self, but rather more like the kind-hearted elder of an ordinary family, beaming with joy.
Following his gaze, Lin Zhiyi saw Gong Chen peeling shrimp.
After peeling, he carefully checked for any remaining shells before placing the shrimp onto Sang Ran’s plate.
Sang Ran looked up and smiled at him, her eyes brimming with light.
Everyone around the table laughed sincerely.
It was as if this dinner table, without Lin Zhiyi and Liu He, finally... looked like a real family.
Lin Zhiyi pursed her lips and immediately turned to look at the maid next to her.
"You go ahead; I need to use the restroom."
"Okay."
Seeing the maid enter, Lin Zhiyi quickly left.
Upon hearing a sound, Gong Chen looked up toward the entrance of the dining room but only saw the maid coming in.
Sang Ran asked with a light smile, "Third Young Master, what are you looking at?"
"Nothing, let’s eat."
Gong Chen put down the shrimp and took a towel from the maid to wipe his hands.
Sang Ran looked down at the shrimp on her plate, her cheeks tinged with a blush.
"Thank you, if it weren’t for my injured fingers, I wouldn’t need to bother you with this."
Before Gong Chen could speak, Old Mr. Gong interjected, "Xiao Ran, this is what Gong Chen should do. Compared to your sacrifice, what is this?"
Sang Ran quickly shook her head while looking at Gong Chen: "I didn’t save the Third Young Master expecting something in return; if it had been anyone else in the car, I would have done the same."
She wasn’t just saying nice words; she truly felt that way.
Old Mr. Gong looked at her and nodded with satisfaction: "Xiao Ran, it’s Gong Chen’s luck to know you."
