It turned out that Veronica's father was just an official working in Bloomville County Recorder's office. Given how terrified Felicia and Mrs. Cylon were of Veronica and her family, I had assumed he was a powerful figure.
The suited men clearly hadn't expected her to make such a bold claim, only to find out that Malcolm was from such a small department.
They shook their heads. One of them pulled out their phone and made a call.
"Hello, can you connect me to the Bloomville County Recorder's office? Have a guy named Malcolm Brown handle his wife. She's causing trouble in front of me for no reason."
He hung up the phone right after.
Mrs. Brown froze briefly, a trace of fear showing in her eyes, but she quickly glared back defiantly right after. "Don't try to scare me! The fact that you're staying in such a shabby hotel proves you're not anyone important. Don't try to act tough in front of—"
Before she could finish her sentence, her phone rang.
She looked down, her face immediately becoming pale. She trembled as she answered, "Hello, honey? Y-Yes, of course. I wouldn't dare! How could I… Is he really a big shot? Alright. I'll apologize right away."
After ending the call, she appeared completely deflated. Looking up at the men, she no longer had her earlier bravado and seemed as timid as a mouse.
"I-I'm very sorry. I didn't know who you were…"
One of the men coldly replied, "Enough with the talk. Pay your fees and clear the room for us. We're hosting foreign investors who have major investments in Welsington City. We can't afford to offend them. Move quickly."
Pay the fees?
When they heard this, Mrs. Brown and the other two looked like they had swallowed a bug, their expressions full of discomfort.
They couldn't even come up with 20 thousand to pay for the meal, let alone 30 thousand dollars for the suites. The three of them whispered to each other for a long time but couldn't come up with a solution.
