Chapter 242 I’ll Cover You
“Nadia, what on earth happened?” Wilbur shot Maren a worried glance before turning sharply to Nadia–the first one to wake up.
But Nadia just blinked, feigning confusion. “I have no idea, Wilbur. I just woke up and saw this. I was going to
wake you, but you woke up then.”
As she spoke, she exaggeratedly stretched her arms above her head, trying to make it look like she just woke up. “I’m scared, Wilbur.”
“Don’t worry, Nadia. I’ll keep you safe.” Without hesitation, Wilbur pulled her close, wrapping her in a
protective embrace.
At this point, the wolves had formed a half–circle in front of Maren.
Unflinching, Maren gripped the cheetah bone tightly and slammed it against a rock. On the third strike, it
splintered with a sharp crack, its jagged edge gleaming like a blade.
Clearly, she was gearing up for a fight.
Then came an ear–shattering howl.
This wasn’t just any howl–this was the battle cry of the leader of the pack.
Wolves were known to follow their alpha without question, and this time was no different.
“This is it for you, Maren.” That same thought echoed in both Nadia’s and Gerald’s minds as they watched the
scene unfold before them with bated breath.
The first wolf lunged, jaws wide, eyes locked onto its prey. Maren, however, was faster. In one swift motion, she kicked the creature square in the jaw, sending it sprawling through the air with a pained yelp.
Then, another wolf shot out from the flank–faster this time, a blur of fur and teeth. Any other person would’ve been torn to shreds in the blink of an eye.
Unfortunately for this wolf, Maren wasn’t like most people.
Just as the wolf leaped at her from behind, she turned at the last second and plunged the sharpened bone into its chest. The tip sank deep, straight into the heart.
The wolf gave one final, strangled cry before crumpling to the ground, lifeless.
These wolves were trained, coordinated, and calculating–and they had noticed something crucial. Maren’s weapon was still lodged in the wolf’s body. Now was their chance.
The metallic scent of blood soaked the air, fueling their aggression.
“This is getting fun.”

Even someone as skilled as Maren couldn’t fight off a dozen wolves rushing in all at once.
Thinking fast, she seized the dead wolf’s tail, and swung the heavy body like a flail.
She knocked the lunging wolves off course, sending them flying in all directions.
Compared to the tiger she faced earlier, these mutts were laughable. Quick, yes–but soft. Unimpressive. Maren barely spared the fallen ones a second glance.
They moved in coordinated patterns, trained by humans to mimic the hunt. But the raw, vicious instinct of true predators? Nowhere to be found. A real tiger would have torn through them like paper.
Even the bear from earlier hadn’t retreated out of fear. ?
“That makes things easier.”
to shield its cubs. These wolves? All bark, no bite.
Maren dropped the limp body in her hand. She surged forward, right into the center of the pack, fearless and
fast.
With a flick of her wrist, she drove the jagged bone in her hand into three wolves in quick succession.
The others barely had time to react before Maren darted to another side and took out more of them.
By the time they realized their brethren had fallen, Maren had disappeared again–like smoke in the wind.

“Wolves raised by humans will never match the edge of those raised in the wild.”
By now, Maren had taken down over a dozen wolves. She moved like a blur, always a step ahead. They couldn’t even touch her, let alone land a blow.
If these had been wild wolves, she might’ve broken a sweat.
But these guys? These pathetic pets lacked the fire that turned beasts into monsters.
“Trained wolves and wild wolves are
entirely different beasts.”
And the difference only became clearer with every skirmish.
She’d fought real wolves before–ones whose hunger crackled in their eyes, who fought like every second meant life or death.
Yes, even she had to admit that these wolves were well–coordinated, but their instincts had been dulled.
Declawed. Domesticated.
And without that kill–or–be–killed mindset? They were soft.
It was like comparing house dogs to strays. Sure, they looked like the same species on the surface, but when the claws come out, the difference would be clear as day.
Still, their sheer numbers pressed in on her. That was their only real weapon now.
Maren kept moving, never staying in one place long enough to get swarmed. After all, a dogpile of thirty wolves could crush her
That was the only scenario, she wouldn’t walk away from unscathed.

One, two, three, four…
With each takedown, something stirred inside her a long–forgotten spark, a flicker of that familiar high. She wasn’t just surviving this fight—she was loving it.
Not since she left the Sovereign Underworld had she felt this alive!
This was the first time in a long time this feeling coursed through her veins.
“Oh my god, somebody pinch me! Is this a movie or real life?”
The judges sat frozen, eyes glued to the monitor, jaws slack in disbelief. Maren didn’t even look winded as she sliced through wolf after wolf.
Dozens of wolves came at her, yet she tore through them with terrifying ease, like they were nothing more than sheep. Just moments ago, they’d been on edge, fearing for her life.
But now? Now, they feared for the wolves!
With countless bodies littering the floor, the remaining wolves grew hesitant.
