Holden and his sons had overheard Kathryn’s conversation with her mother. Feeling uneasy, they suspected Clarissa wanted Kathryn to be kinder to her brothers. But Kathryn was not inclined to listen.

Marco and the others, who already harbored no brotherly affection for Kathryn, only grew more resentful of her. If the Farrell family weren’t in such a critical situation, they might have tried to eliminate Kathryn.
