Chapter 262
Some middle–aged men suddenly appeared, calling urgently for Kelly.
“Miss Kingston, we have waiting for you.”
Kelly glanced irritably at them, then at Bella, sighing softly as she leaned close to Alex’s ear.
“Sorry, Alex, I have to deal with these vultures. Keep an eye out–night need rescuing ”
Alex rolled his eyes dismissively.
“They’re all weaker than you, Kelly. As long as they don’t intentionally provoke you, their old bones will be fine.”
“Who knows,” Kelly muttered with a resigned shrug, moving reluctantly toward the middle–aged men hungry for favors and connections.
Bella swiftly seized Alex’s arm, pulling him to sit beside her.
She launched immediately into cheerful chatter, leaving Shane feeling awkward and ignored by the two worner.
Scarlett glared daggers at Alex, a storm of inexplicable irritation clouding her face.
“Scarlett,” Shane hissed suspiciously, narrowing his eyes at Alex, who exactly is that guy?”
Scarlett smirked contemptuously, her voice dripping venom.
“Him? He’s nothing more than a slum doctor, desperately grasping at Bella’s charity. Completely insignificant.”
“Ah,” Shane scoffed with mockery, looking Alex up and down disdainfully.
“I mistook him for someone important. Turns out, you’re just another parasite from the gutters.”
Across the room, Kelly’s gaze sharpened as she observed Bella’s shameless flirtation with Alex, still clinging possessively to his
arm.
Without hesitation, Kelly marched back over, asserting herself boldly.
“Miss Kane,” she snapped curtly, “I need you to introduce me to Vermont’s elite. Now.”
Bella pouted petulantly. “Can’t you see I’m busy? Everyone already knows you–go introduce yourself.”
Kelly snorted impatiently, grabbing Bella by the arm like an exasperated older sister.
“Your father explicitly instructed you to introduce me. Move.”
“Alex, help me!” Bella squealed dramatically as Kelly dragged her away.
Alex watched them go, catching Kelly’s cold, challenging gaze.
He smirked faintly, “Please take care of her.”
Shane walked up to Alex, sneering contemptuously, his voice dripping with arrogant disdain.
“Listen, don’t say nobody warned you? You’ll never fit into our world. Take your pathetic self and leave before you embarrass
yourself.”
A girl dressed sharply in black added venomously, “Exactly. A peasant like you could never measure up to someone like Mr. White, much less compete for Bella or Kelly.”
“Oh, really?” Alex replied blandly, unfazed.
“Seriously, have some dignity. See Mr. White’s necklace? You couldn’t earn that much if you spent your entire wortness life slaving away. Forget about impressing anyone,” she mocked viciously. 1

Alex stared at her calmly, repeating again, “Oh, really?”
The girl sneered, frustration flashing in her eyes.

“Clearly you have no idea who Mr. White is. Allow me to enlighten you–his family is second richest in Vermont, worth billions Their power stretches from the business district to the darkest alleys.”
Again, Alex said indifferently, “Oh, really?”
“And,” she snapped bitterly, “Mr. White is also Vermont’s top–ranked fighter on Royal Knight Online. He’s powerful, wealthy, influential–utterly beyond your wildest dreams.”
“Oh, really?”
“Is that all you can say, you pathetic idiot?” she snarled, her face fishing red with anger.
“Oh, really?” Alex said dryly, clearly amused by her fury.
Shane stepped in angrily, his voice dripping arrogance. “Listen, punk, your little clever comebacks are meaningless. Face it- you’ll always be beneath me, in every way imaginable.”
“Oh, really?” Alex sighed in boredom, eyes cold as ice.
His past had made him a wild creature, forged through harsh survival, utterly unlike these pampered, sheltered brats.
Maybe that’s why they couldn’t even find common ground in words.
Shane growled, visibly irritated by Alex’s indifference, but their confrontation was abruptly interrupted by a sudden commotion from outside.
“Stop right there! This is a private event! Leave immediately!” the security guard shouted, but three attackers struck him repeatedly with iron batons, silencing him as he crumpled to the ground.
“Surround them! Don’t let anyone escape!” shouted a commanding voice.
Screams erupted as dozens of armed, ruthless–looking men stormed the hall, overwhelming the stunned bodyguards.
An elderly man rose defiantly, shouting, “Who dares invade here? Don’t you know this club belongs to Vermont’s elite?”
A fierce–looking man stepped forward, sneering, “Old Peter, did you forget? Jericho Kane no longer rules the underworld. That means it’s Tommy’s turn now.”
“You insolent dog! You think you can rise above your station?” Peter spat venomously.
“Fuck off, old man!” Tommy snarled, viciously slapping Peter so hard he flew across the room.
Shane jumped up indignantly, fists clenched. “How dare you bring trouble here? Who the hell do you think you are?”
“Relax, everyone,” Tommy drawled sarcastically.
“I’m just here to greet Miss Kelly, our new governor. How could she not invite me to her little party when we’re talking about new power in Vermont? Anyone who doesn’t want trouble–stay put and mind your own business.”
