The helicopter descended onto the heli–pad, its blades slicing viciously through the night air, stirring the shadows like a whirlwind of doom.
As Henry’s lifeless body was carried from the craft and laid before Conrad Dupont, Conrad felt as though a thunderbolt fuad cleaved his soul in half.
His face drained instantly of color, turning as white as a death shroid.
“Who did this?” Conrad’s voice erupted in an anguished roar, echoing across the landing pad.
His eyes were wild, rimmed with red veins of fury, his entire frame trembling like a cornered beast.
“Who dared spill Dupont blood?”
“It–it was a man named Alex,” stammered his secretary, flinching under the weight of Conrad’s feral gaze.
“He’s Kelly Kingston’s bodyguard.”
“Alex, you miserable piece of filth!” Conrad howled, teeth grinding audibly, spittle flying from his lips.
“You murdered my son–I’ll rip your bones apart! I’ll skin you alive!” Each word was laced with a promise of savage retribution.
“Send out the word!” Conrad barked.
“I want every resource we have scouring every street, every shadow, every sewer! Find that bastard! Tear him apart first, then gut Kelly Kingston!”
His voice was raw, bloodlust unhinged. “They’ll both pay with their lives!”
Meanwhile, beneath the moonlight that painted a deceptive peace over the city gardens, Alex and Kelly sat calmly on a bench, sharing a modest snack.
Alex spoke quietly into his phone. “Carlos, use Vancouver’s underworld to swallow Vermont. Fast. Leave nothing to chance.” “Can I just stick a gun to Jericho Kane’s head?” Carlos asked bluntly. “It’d speed things up–he knows every rat in Vermont.”
“Do it your way,” Alex said coldly.
“But if he refuses, tell me. I’ll handle him personally.”
Ending the call, he glanced casually at Kelly. “Your move?”
“I’ve unleashed Kingwell operatives throughout Vermont,” Kelly replied calmly, her eyes reflecting ruthless determination. “They’re exposing every corrupt official. And if the businessmen ignore my warnings, I’ll crush them as well.”
“Perfect.” Alex took a bite of bread, chewing slowly, savoring the impending storm.
“Now, we just wait for them to stumble right into our trap.”
That night, Vermont was a tinderbox ignited by unseen hands.
While many family anticipated an attack from the Chicago Lords, it was Kelly who fired the devastating first shot. Suddenly, media erupted with scandal: high–ranking government officials arrested in sweeping anti–corruption raids.
Headlines screamed Kelly Kingston had initiated a merciless purge
As governors fell, they quickly betrayed their business accomplices, spilling names and secrets under pressure. Business magnates loyal to the Duponts found themselves cornered, realizing their allegiance was now a death sentence.

“Sir,” a trembling secretary interrupted, “the police are coming now, searching for our Dupont ties we can’t escape
“Burn everything!” the man shrieked desperately, his voice cracking under the strain.
“Erase all evidence linking us to Dupont! Destroy it all!”
Find out where the Governor is–1 need to meet her!
Across Vermont, ties to Dupont were severed with ruthless urgency
When Conrad frantically called his allies, demanding support and revenge for Henry, each plea went unanswered–bridges were being torched behind them.
Inside his lavish study, Jericho Kane watched the news with growing dread, his heart pounding with each broadcasted arrest.
His phone buzzed ominously.
“Jericho, this is Carlos from the Vancouver.”
“I know who you are,” Jericho said.
“Good. Then I’ll make this quick. Alex wants every last scrap of intel on Vermont’s underworld. Tell your people to stand down- now. This is mercy. You won’t get another warning.”
Jericho’s heart pounded like a war drum. “I’ll pass on your message,” he muttered, voice dry.
“But I can’t promise they’ll listen. I’m already washing my hands of this.”
“Noted,” came the cold reply.
“Anyone who resists will find their citizenship papers signed–by Hell itself.”
The line went dead.
His phone rang again–this time, it was a voice he knew well: the Vermont military general, tense and urgent.
“Jericho, command just issued the order–eliminate every underworld member who refuses to side with Carlos.”
“General Maxwell… I’ve already washed my hands of the underworld.”
“Then consider yourself lucky.”
Jericho exhaled, slow and bitter. For the first time, he felt completely powerless. “Thanks for the warning.”
“Stay low,” Maxwell advised grimly. “The new king’s making his move, and we’re nothing but insects under the wheels of change. Best to lie flat for now.”
He broadcast a stark warning to his ex–underworld contacts; “Surrender to Carlos by tonight. Resist, and you’re dead. Don’t be stupid enough to test it.”
Jericho Kane–once the puppet master pulling every string in Vermont’s shadows–now stood powerless, a relic swept aside by the storm the new King had unleashed.
“The Chicago Lords,” he murmured bitterly, “have no idea they’ve kicked a hornet’s nest. Soon they’ll learn how ruthless Alex truly is.”
The strong do what they want. The weak? They do what they must
And for the first time in his life, Jericho Kane realized–he was the weak one.
