The Educator novel Chapter 10

Oh my God.

“Jesus, Hannah” I say under my breath. “Oh my God!”. It suddenly dawned on me my situation in school.

“Think about what the other students will say if they found out that you’re married to a teacher?”

I was silent.

“Hello?” she was trying to get my attention. “Are you still there?”

“I-I need to call you back” I tell her and drop the call. I swallowed really hard and leaned back. I was trying to catch my breath. My vision was a little blurry. I reach for my phone and start calling Elliot. One or two rings, he switched is off. He’s probably still with his client. I send him a couple of messages, telling him to call me as soon as possible.

Oh my God. Oh my God.

Hannah’s right. What about my identity as a student? What will people say? Will they assume that I’m passing my subjects just because my husband is professor?

Suddenly, my phone rings.

It was Elliot calling.

“Are you okay?” he asked

I swallowed “Does the school know?”

“What?”

“Does that school know that you and I are married? Am I going to get expelled?” I asked him hurriedly.

“What are you talking about, Eli?”

“Elliot!” I say, “listen to me. I am asking you if the school knows. DO they know about you and me? Do they know that we’re married?”

He sighs, “Yes, the school board knows about us. Old fashioned nepotism isn’t so bad. You’re not going to get expelled. You will go and show up at your first class. There’s not going to be a problem, Eli. I got you” he tells me calmly.

“Elliot, I swear to God if I don’t graduate because of this. I will punch you” I tell him.

He laughs, “Okay, deal. Listen, I have to go. Finish your breakfast, okay? Can you do me favor? Can you call concierge and ask them which restaurant it best for honeymooners. I’ll let you decide, just reserve us a seat, okay?”
