Chapter 20: Chapter 20 Apologizing to Master Jennings
Chapter 20 -20 Apologizing to Master Jennings
The lights just came on.
Inside the Jennings Family villa, it was dinner time, but the atmosphere was tense.
Old Sir Jiang sat in the center of the living room, with the second and third wings seated at either side, the younger members all silent.
Luca Jennings sat across from the old man, his expression cold as ice, exuding an intense pressure.
It wasn’t until Donovan Jennings told him everything about giving up the room that he realized before he came back, Lucas Jennings and Adam Jennings had taken turns criticizing Scarlett Garrison.
Even Ismeria Jennings directly told Scarlett to get out of her house.
And he, without knowing the full story, first reproached her for approaching the Silva Family on her own, then, like everyone else, told her to give the room to her sister.
No wonder, no wonder Scarlett was so disappointed that she said she wanted to move out.
As a father, he failed in his duties.
“Big Brother, it was just Violet being a child that caused all this today, it’s my fault, I’ll explain to Scarlett and try to win her forgiveness…”
Odessa, seeing the tense atmosphere, took the initiative to take responsibility.
Michael Jennings frowned at these words, pulling Odessa’s hand with a disapproving look, “How is this your fault? Violet is young and just expressed what she wanted. It’s not a big deal. If you ask me, Scarlett overreacted. She’s only been back two days and is making a fuss over something so small, wanting to leave home…”
Before he could finish, Luca Jennings coldly raised his eyes, his voice deep as he interrupted, “Second Brother, my daughter just returned and was forced to leave home. Is that a small matter?”
Michael Jennings’s facial muscles twitched, meeting his elder brother’s piercing gaze, and he fell silent.
Luca Jennings’ eyes swept over the few people, his gaze intense,
“Young Ismeria is small and liked Scarlett’s pretty room is no big deal. The Jennings Family isn’t a small household. If she likes it, you could have remodeled a room for her to the standard of a princess with just a word. Why did Scarlett have to give up her room?”
The second wing remained silent, making Lucas’s voice even graver.
“It’s not that you wanted her to give up the room, but you felt that since she was new, she should please you and earn your acceptance!”
“Big Brother, you’re being too harsh! They’re all kids. How could they have such intentions?”
“Oh, really? If you didn’t treat her as an outsider from the beginning, why tell her to get out of my house? Even if it’s a child’s words, they should know what they can say and what they can’t.”
Luca Jennings’s tone was rather stern. Young Ismeria Jennings shivered, then shrank back into Odessa’s arms in fear, pursing her lips but too scared to burst into tears like before.
Odessa looked on with distress and said, “Violet misspoke. I’ll go apologize to Scarlett. I’ll beg her to forgive and return. As her elder, if I personally beg her, she won’t really stay away. Big Brother, please don’t blame Violet…”
On the other side, Adam Jennings, seeing his mother lowering herself like this to his uncle, felt a flicker of irritation and couldn’t help but speak up.
“Uncle, she wanted to leave. Nobody forced her, and it’s not my mom’s fault. Why should we have to beg her to come back? Maybe she knew she did something wrong and angered the Silvas, and left home as an excuse because she feared Grandpa’s anger?!”
Luca Jennings turned to look at him, saying sternly, “If Scarlett did wrong, I would teach her, with no need to explain to anyone. But Adam, if you persist with this attitude towards Scarlett, there’s no need for you to call me uncle anymore.”
His voice wasn’t loud, but it made Adam and the others’ hearts skip a beat, their eyes widening reflexively.
Luca Jennings’s gaze then slowly swept over the room, looking at the younger generation, including Lucas Jennings and Chase Jennings.
“The same goes for you. If you refuse to accept Scarlett, you don’t need to call me uncle in the future.”
His voice was calm yet more authoritative than ever, making the younger generation straighten their backs as they hurriedly expressed their obedience.
Blaise Jennings, who respected his elder brother greatly, clapped his son hard on the shoulder and then smiled, trying to lighten the mood, “Big Brother, the kids have sharp tongues but no ill intentions. It’s not a matter of acceptance or non-acceptance. Scarlett is part of our family; it’s not so bad.”
Luca Jennings’s eyes darkened slightly, his voice carrying an undercurrent of suppression as he said,
“Scarlett was lost for eighteen years, and even if the Garrison Family never let her go hungry, she still suffered as an adopted daughter. Now that she’s finally returned, I won’t let her endure any more grievances. I won’t ask each of you to accommodate her, but at least treat her as an ordinary family member.”
He paused, his voice increasingly grim, “If you cannot do that, then I’ll choose to live alone with Scarlett and Donovan Jennings.”
