Chapter 41 -41 He and Timothy Garrison are truly father and son
“I refuse.”
In the side room of the Jennings Family house, Scarlett Jennings looked at Josiah Garrison and refused without hesitation.
Josiah appeared visibly taken aback and even thought he had misheard.
“What, what did you say?”
“I said, I- re- fuse.” Seeing his puzzled expression, Scarlett patiently repeated it one word at a time.
Josiah’s face didn’t look pleasantly surprised.
Including last time, this was the second time Scarlett didn’t do as he said.
“Scarlett, don’t throw a tantrum. I know you’re still angry about Mom making you leave the Garrison Family that day, but everyone is family. Moreover, if it weren’t for Mom and Dad, you wouldn’t be back with the Jennings Family now.”
Scarlett glanced at him. “So, according to you, I should be grateful to you all?”
Josiah was just about to speak when Scarlett interrupted him again, “Besides, I am no longer part of your family; I now bear the Jennings name.”
“Even if you’ve acknowledged your biological parents, we’re still family!” Josiah frowned. “Or are you genuinely like they say, now that you’ve become the Jennings Family’s young lady, you don’t want to recognize us anymore?”
Scarlett just looked at him, then asked monotonously, “And what if I say yes?”
…
When Lucas Jennings came downstairs to get freshly squeezed juice, he saw Adam Jennings leaning against the second-floor railing, watching something with an amused expression. As he approached, he happened to overhear Scarlett’s statement.
The Jennings Family villa had two living rooms, one at the front and one at the back. The front one was generally for family gatherings or entertaining guests and was more formal. The back one was smaller and directly faced the second-floor banister, meaning from the second floor, one could clearly see what was happening in the side room.
Lucas nearly forgot the juice instantly and leaned over to listen.
The two heads huddled together, eavesdropping on the gossip downstairs. freewebnσvel.cѳm
Downstairs, Scarlett maintained her somewhat indifferent stance and simply said, “The day I left the Garrison Family, I said we are no longer related. Even if I weren’t the Jennings’ young lady, I wouldn’t want to recognize you all.”
Josiah, affected by Scarlett’s words, had a momentary lapse with an ugly expression, but he quickly composed himself, speaking in a subdued voice.
“Scarlett, I’ve already heard about what happened at the banquet. Whatever Mom and Dad’s reasons, they did raise you. You’re so eager to clear ties with the Garrison Family in front of everyone. Don’t you know how much it hurt them? Mom and Dad have never quarreled before, and because of you, they argued fiercely. They fell ill that very day.”
Josiah initially delivered a stern lecture and then softened his tone. “Despite everything, they didn’t blame you. They even let me bring Grandma’s bracelet to you. Scarlett, Mom and Dad have been really good to you. Don’t always be so ungrateful.”
Scarlett’s temples throbbed slightly.
She always thought Josiah was the only normal one in the Garrison Family. After all, since she was young, he never intentionally suppressed her like Isolde Garrison or made her take the blame. Instead, he would care about her studies, give her birthday gifts, and sometimes comfort her when Emma White reprimanded her.
Because of this, she tried to treat Josiah as a real brother, doing various things for him, trying to get some warmth from him.
But later, she found out.
Josiah wasn’t as she thought he was.
