Upon returning to his desk, Pierre was shocked when he saw a stranger in his spot.
Matthew saw a person standing before him, looking all beaten up and just staring at him. He smiled and pointed to the second floor.
"You're here to get your wound dressed, right? The outpatient clinic is on the second floor. Feel free to head there."
Pierre slammed the table. "This is my desk. It's where I sit to work. Get out of here."
Was this supposed to be his workspace? Matthew's eyes went wide open. "Are you Pierre?"
Wasn't Pierre a doctor? Why did he turn up like this?
Feeling perplexed, Pierre looked at Matthew. "How do you know my name?"
People in Kirkshire called him Cleeve, and the hospital staff called him by his nickname—Monkey. However, Matthew actually shouted out the name he changed to. It felt bizarre to him.
Matthew stood up and got straight to the point. "I came to talk to you. I'm with medical—"
Before Matthew could say "sects", Pierre suddenly jabbed his finger at Matthew and yelled, "I get it now! That's why they beat me up out of the blue. It's because you came to see me.
"I'm not going to take this beating for nothing. What do we do about this?"
Back then, reporters would show up to interview Pierre. But every time they did, he'd get beaten and locked away. Eventually, the matter was just dropped.
No one had visited Pierre for two years, so it hadn't crossed his mind. He didn't expect to get beaten that day for the same reason.
Matthew was stunned. "You were beaten because of me showing up? I didn't tell anyone I was coming. Are you sure you're not mistaken?"
Pierre gritted his teeth. "I'm sure of it. You must have asked around to find me. So, how do we settle this?"
Matthew gave Pierre a once-over. His lips were busted, and he had one eye swollen. His face was puffy, and there were shoe prints all over his white coat.
Pierre's standing posture was kind of weird like he was afraid to put weight on his right foot. Matthew guessed that his leg was hurt. The longer Matthew looked at it, the more Matthew felt sorry for him.
But Matthew was still annoyed by Pierre's words. "I didn't hit you. You can't blame me for it."
Pierre clenched his teeth, probably realizing he had gone a bit too far. He coldly responded, "What do you need from me?"
Matthew cleared his throat, realizing it had become awkward for a serious conversation.
But since Pierre had asked, Matthew had to say why he was there. "I'm with the medical sects. I'm here to get Five Integrations of Traditional and Modern Medicine—"
