The Heart Left Behind (Cole and Yvonne) novel Chapter 399

She was on the verge of tears.

I stroked my chin and nodded before I looked at the third woman. "How about you?"

I wanted to hear her explanation too.

"I-I didn't lay a hand on her," she stammered.

She seemed fairly honest, but it was a pity she had chosen the wrong crowd to follow. She was likely forced into this by the other two.

I leaned in closer to them and said, "You don't believe that Yolanda is my sister? Should I do a DNA test to prove it to you?"

I deliberately dragged out the last few words as I watched Cindy's face scrunch up from her panic. I asked her calmly, "It feels like you know more about me than my wife does."

Cindy couldn't hold it together anymore. Her eyes reddened as she started to beg me, "Mr. Joplin, it's my fault. I won't doubt you ever again. I was wrong. I was really wrong!"

I found the three of them groveling like that utterly ridiculous.

"What were you thinking earlier?" I asked. Why didn't they consider any of this when they were bullying Yolanda earlier? Yet when they were on the receiving end, their apologies flowed out like nothing.

"The three of you used to work for Yvonne, right?" I asked.

Their expressions immediately stiffened. "No, we have nothing to do with Yvonne."

They were well aware of the grudges between Yvonne and me. It wasn't a secret within the company.

"We really have nothing to do with her."

They constantly denied it, but I insisted on linking them back to her. "But you worked under her before, didn't you?"

No wonder they acted so arrogantly. Back when Yvonne worked for the company, she was practically untouchable.

"Don't worry. I won't do anything to you," I said.

I waved at Murphy before I tilted my head in thought. "Isn't the overseas branch shorthanded?"
