An Xi led Daohua and Dong Yuanyao straight onto the painting boat.
Along the way, many people greeted An Xi, with Daohua and Dong Yuanyao bowing their heads and following behind, playing the part of servants perfectly.
Soon, An Xi had taken the two to a room on the second floor.
"Ladies, this room is specially prepared by the owner of the painting boat for me, and no one will come here," An Xi said. "You can take shelter here for a while."
Daohua and Dong Yuanyao exchanged a glance, then both expressed their gratitude to An Xi.
An Xi smiled and said, "I need to go downstairs to entertain the nobles. Please make yourselves comfortable."
Daohua and Dong Yuanyao watched An Xi leave, and once she was gone, they couldn’t help but breathe a sigh of relief.
The room was at the stern on the second floor. Daohua walked to the window and opened a sliver, just in time to see soldiers heading towards the painting boat.
As An Xi had said, the soldiers did not board the painting boat but stood at the shore negotiating with a middle-aged man who looked like a butler.
About a quarter of an hour later, the soldiers left.
Seeing this, Daohua’s heart finally settled back down, and she turned to walk towards Dong Yuanyao.
Seeing Dong Yuanyao sitting at the table, lost in thought, Daohua sat down next to her and said soothingly, "Yan Ying will surely come looking for us. When he does, I’ll ask him to send a message to Xiao Yeyang, my third brother, and fourth brother. With their help, we can definitely get you out of the city tomorrow."
Dong Yuanyao was not overly excited, instead, she was still worried, "What will happen to my family after I leave?"
Daohua fell silent and then said, "Your uncles and Aunt Dong, as well as big brother Dong, surely want you to be safe and sound. The pressing matter is that you cannot be caught by the Duke Residence’s people. We must get you out of the city first, and as for the rest, we’ll make plans later."
Dong Yuanyao leaned on Daohua’s shoulder, "Yiyi, thank you. I’m so glad you’re here!"
Daohua patted her back and, seeing some snacks on the table, picked one up, smelled it, and tasted a little to ensure there was nothing wrong with it before saying to Dong Yuanyao, "There are some snacks here, let’s fill our stomachs."
Dong Yuanyao had no appetite and shook her head.
Daohua insisted and stuffed a piece into her mouth, "Though we’re temporarily safe now, who knows if we’ll encounter any officials trying to arrest us later. We won’t make it without enough strength."
Saying this, she began to eat as well, all the while gesturing for Dong Yuanyao to eat.
Under Daohua’s persistence, Dong Yuanyao forced herself to eat a few snacks.
Having eaten something and rested for a while, both of them no longer felt as exhausted as before.
Before long, the floor below suddenly became noisy.
Hearing this, Daohua quickly went to the window to look outside.
Because of the soldiers’ previous dispersal, there were not many pedestrians at the shore at the moment, so Daohua immediately spotted the soldiers checking the pleasure boats and the painting boat one by one.
"The soldiers have returned!" Daohua said alarmingly.
Right then, they heard a knock at the door.
Daohua glanced at Dong Yuanyao and cautiously asked, "Who is it?"
A woman’s voice responded, "It’s me. Master An sent me to bring you some clothes."
Daohua frowned slightly, signaled for Dong Yuanyao to hide behind the door, and then cracked the door open.
The woman outside, without saying a word, forced her way in as soon as the door opened.
An extremely voluptuous and seductive woman entered, her revealing clothing accentuating her curvaceous figure to the fullest.
