The Lady Nun Seeks Justice (Eliza Stonor) novel Chapter 558

558.Chapter 558

Just as the poisonous insects were about to enter Centrina City, the city gates were finally opened.

“Prince Regent.”

A middle–aged man, dressed in official robes, hurriedly led a group of officials out from the gates.

Upon seeing Nolan, he immediately dropped to his knees, crying out, “Prince Regent, you’ve finally arrived! You can’t imagine how long I, along with all the officials and citizens of Woteria, have been waiting for the court’s aid. At last, we’ve been blessed with your arrival.”

His words made it sound as if the court had been dragging its feet on the relief effort.

Nolan raised an eyebrow.

From his position on horseback, he looked down at the kneeling officials, scanning the crowd of eyes watching them from within Centrina City.

He coldly replied, “It seems I’ve caused you trouble, then. After the King received news of Woteria’s disaster, he immediately began preparing the relief. I’ve led the Black Flag Army with supplies, traveling day and night, only to keep you waiting.” “Jefferson, you’ve truly worked hard,” Nolan’s words instantly made Jefferson’s back break into a cold sweat. Jefferson quickly said, “No, no, Your Highness, it is you who have worked hard. Please, enter the city and rest.”

As he tried to rise, a blade, still sheathed, was pressed against his shoulder.

“In a hurry? I still have questions,” Nolan’s voice was calm but firm.

Though the pressure seemed light, Jefferson felt as if his shoulder might be broken.

He broke into a cold sweat, saying, “The snow outside is freezing, and the soldiers must be suffering as well. It would be better if Your Highness enters the city to rest first. Then, we can talk more inside.”

Just moments ago, he had closed the gates to block their entry, yet now, he was eager to invite them in.

‘Something’s off here, thought Eliza, quietly watching Jefferson and the others, as the poisonous insects she had sent into Centrina City started reporting back.

As the insects relayed the situation inside, Eliza raised an eyebrow under her straw hat.

Given Jefferson’s odd behavior, she initially suspected he had set a trap with assassins. But the situation inside Centrina City surprised her.

There was no ambush waiting for Nolan and the others. Instead, they were met by a crowd of citizens–though not the welcoming kind.

Eliza tightened her grip on the reins and moved her horse closer to Nolan, signaling him discreetly.

Nolan understood immediately.

He gave a cold laugh and said, “Entering the city is unnecessary. My soldiers have faced battles, wars, and death on the battlefield. How could they fear a little snow?”
