675.Chapter 675
Just as Fletcher was about to respond, a figure suddenly stepped forward, pushing him aside to the edge of the doorway.
“Lord Henderson, aren’t you blowing this way out of proportion? Your Grace just gave a little punishment to a servant who dared to cause trouble at the Padilla family’s banquet. How is that private punishment?”
As soon as the newcomer spoke, the surrounding guests immediately recognized him.
After all, this was none other than the father of the current Empress, the newly appointed Grand Duke, Hubert Baker.
Upon seeing him, Eliza, who had been seated calmly, immediately stood up with a smile. “Mr. Baker, you’ve arrived.”
Hubert bowed politely and said with a smile, “Congratulations, Your Grace. His Majesty kept me occupied in the Imperial Study earlier today, which caused a slight delay. I hope I’m not too late for your celebration?”
“Not at all. Don’t worry! No matter when you arrive, there will always be a table reserved for you and your faher at the banquet.”
Eliza personally invited Hubert to take a seat, a privilege not extended to anyone else.
No one dared to voice any complaints.
After all, even His Highness, the Prince Regent, was still standing. Who else would dare to sit besides these two?
Hubert had come today with a clear purpose: to support Eliza. His daughter had already warned him that someone would likely stir up trouble at the banquet.
Initially, they suspected the Duke’s estate might be behind it, but upon arriving, they realized it was the Henderson family causing the commotion.
A flicker of calculation flashed in Hubert’s eyes. After settling into his seat, he continued, “Lord Henderson, it seems you’ve failed to properly discipline your servants. Her Grace merely stepped in to teach them a lesson, yet now you demand an explanation from her? Forgive me, but since when did the Henderson family become so high and mighty? Or perhaps, there’s more than one face to the Henderson name?”
In other words, he was telling Fletcher to stop pretending, and everyone could see through their intentions.
They were causing trouble on the very day the Padilla family reopens its doors. Were they afraid the Padilla family would rise again under Eliza’s leadership and overshadow the Hendersons? Or had they already joined forces with the Duke’s estate, and today’s actions were carried out under their orders?
