Once upon a time, I had loved Abigail deeply. Back then, I didn't want to give up on our relationship and hoped that we could repair what was broken. But now, her actions only proved how laughable my feelings for her were.
It was as if everything I'd done in the past was meaningless. She had taken my heart, thrown it to the ground, crushed it underfoot, and then proceeded to humiliate, mock, and ridicule me mercilessly.
I let out a laugh, then calmly shook my head. I stared at her with a calm expression and said, "Abigail, my feelings for you were genuine. From the moment we met to us falling in love and eventually getting married, I've always loved you deeply.
"You were the first girl I truly loved after I learned what love meant. Even though you've hurt me for so long, those emotions that I've invested in you can't be forgotten so easily."
My words made her eyes redden slightly. She took a hesitant step toward me as if trying to comfort me.
However, I knew whatever love she still had for me was like a bottomless abyss of endless torment. I could not afford to let myself be drawn to her again, or that would be the end of me.
So, I took a deep breath. I steadied myself and looked her in the eye calmly as I said slowly, "Abigail, stop. I just want to speak my mind. That's all."
But even after I clarified things, she still wouldn't give up.
She came up to my face and said in a soft and gentle tone, "Samuel, I know you're hurt, but I'm not what you think I am. Can we sit down and have a proper talk?"
As she spoke, she reached out to take my hand.
For some reason, the moment I saw her approach me, an overwhelming sense of repulsion surged within me. I didn't want her to touch me anymore. Her hands felt absolutely filthy.
No, it wasn't just her hand, but her as a whole felt tainted.
I backed off a few steps, and I could clearly see the panic and unease in her eyes.
