Gu Jiao returned to her room to give Gu Yan a physical examination, and she shared with him the good news of finding the Operating Room. Gu Yan’s head rested on Gu Jiao’s leg, and he fell asleep, feeling at ease.
The night was deep and silent.
In a courtyard of the Su Residence, after taking a bath and changing clothes, Mu Qingchen sat down next to the bed with her long black hair draped over her shoulders. She opened the drawer of the bedside cabinet and took out a brocade box.
Inside the brocade box was an old doll with a gaping mouth full of sharp teeth, a blind eye, and patches of hair missing.
The next morning, Gu Jiao, after washing up as usual, went to take Gu Yan’s pulse.
With the old master at home, and a horse added to the family, occasionally Xiaojiu would also fly over from the inner city to frolic, the house became lively, and Gu Yan no longer felt so gloomy.
Gu Jiao went to school with peace of mind, along with Gu Xiaoshun.
Today, Mu Qingchen sat at the back row. Gu Jiao originally did not want to sit with him, but to her dismay she found that, beside Mu Qingchen using his Aura of exclusivity to clear out the back row, there was no other quiet place available in the class.
Gu Jiao looked to the left, Zhong Ding was waving at her.
Gu Jiao looked to the right, Zhou Tong was waving at her.
After a moment of thought, Gu Jiao, with her school bag in tow, sat down beside Mu Qingchen without a word.
Zhou Tong, who was seated in front of Gu Jiao, timidly took out his homework, and then—bam!
Mu Qingchen threw his homework onto the desk in front of Gu Jiao.
Zhou Tong meekly turned his body halfway back around.
Gu Jiao quickly copied the homework, and Master Gao arrived.
The morning classes were taught by Master Gao and Master Jiang.
Master Gao taught Arithmetic, was rather fierce, and quite strict, while Master Jiang taught the Four Books and Five Classics, policy discussions, and so on, was gentle in nature, slightly old-fashioned but not considered outdated.
Both masters were highly respectable teachers, and yet the students still loved Master Wu’s classes the most.
It seemed that from ancient times to the present day, Physical Education remained the favorite among students.
In the afternoon there was one 2-hour period of self-study, followed by Master Wu’s Horse Archery Class.
Originally, the Horse Archery Class was scheduled earlier, but as the weather gradually became hotter, the first period in the afternoon was the worst time for the burning sun, so Master Wu changed the schedule.
When the Horse Archery Class began, the students found that instead of archery targets being set up on the grassland, Master Wu held a stick and a wooden ball the size of a fist in his hand.
"Today we play polo," said Master Wu.
