The Prime Minister's Darling novel Chapter 457

Chapter 457: 231 Becoming a Father (Second update)

In the Marquis Residence’s Flower Hall, the old lady Gu was entertaining a guest from the Ling family, her sister-in-law, the old lady Ling.

Once they reached their age, they rarely mingled around, handing over duties to their sons and daughters-in-law. Without guessing, one knew a significant matter prompted the lady Ling’s visit.

“You’re his grandmother, what decision couldn’t you make for him? I’m aware that the Ling family was wrong; we did not educate this illegitimate daughter properly, yet you, grand aunt, also came from Ling’s family and could demand such grace and nobility…”

Old lady Ling immediately started with all the sugar-coated flattery leaving old lady Gu in a quandary.

But indeed, old lady Gu truly had no say in Gu Changqing’s marriage, in fact, she could hardly make decisions in all matters concerning him.

Old lady Ling was quite open-minded. Had she taken a liking to Gu Chengfeng or Gu Chenglin, old lady Gu could have easily agreed to their marriages.

At first, lady Gu wanted her son’s input, but the Marquis Gu had just been punished by his father; at this moment, he was still in pain, how would he dare cross his father to interfere with Changqing’s marriage?

The Marquis Gu then sent Huang Zhong to find his father.

Huang Zhong came back swiftly with a rushed look and a loss for words.

Old lady Gu asked: “Where’s the master?”

Huang Zhong awkwardly replied, “The master… the master said he has important matters to attend to, he can’t come at the moment!”

Old lady Ling was so angered that she almost stormed out!

He had already left his position, so what urgent matters could he possibly have? It’s clear he was avoiding the Ling family on purpose!

“When my brother-in-law had not yet established his own home, you married into a lower family, yet now the Gu family repays the Ling family like this!” Having said this coldly, the old lady Ling turned to leave.

Old lady Gu felt guilty and hurriedly pulled her hand, “Sister-in-law, do not be angry. How about… we go ask Changqing directly, if he agrees personally, the master surely will not object!”

Hearing this, old lady Ling felt it was feasible, thus they both proceeded to Gu Changqing’s courtyard.

Who would have thought that they’d have a wasted trip? Gu Changqing wasn’t at home!

Old lady Gu’s face darkened, “He’s messing around! He’s still injured! He left the residence?!”

Gu Changqing promised Gu Yan last month that he would teach him horseriding. Today was the day they agreed upon.

Ignoring his injuries, Gu Changqing insisted on leaving the residence.

He rode his precious breed of horse to Bishui Alley.

Gu Yan had tactfully asked the Yao Family’s stance; they opposed him riding a horse, afraid that a fall could lead to a heart attack. Hence, Gu Yan didn’t mention this to the family.

After school, Gu Yan waited at the courtyard gate. Although he was inside, he kept sticking his small head out, looking left and right, and then quickly retracting his head, resembling a little quail.

As soon as Gu Changqing arrived at Bishui Alley, he saw his own little quail with a tuft of hair sticking out of his head, looking rather foolish.

All of a sudden, Gu Changqing’s mood brightened.

He spurred his horse to start.

Gu Yan heard the oncoming horseshoe sounds, and stepped across the threshold with a delighted look in his eyes.

Gu Changqing stopped his horse in front of him and reached out his hand.

Gu Yan placed his hand into Changqing’s.

Gu Changqing’s hand was broad and calloused from years of martial arts. Gu Yan’s hand was slightly smaller, slender and fair. Although he shoveled chicken manure everyday while working for Xiaojingkong, he hadn’t formed any callouses.

Soft and tender.

Gu Changqing was afraid that if he weren’t careful, he’d break his hand.

He lessened his grip, carefully pulled him up the horse, and had him sit in front of him.

As soon as Gu Yan sat down, he realized something was off. He looked down and asked, “Huh? Changed your saddle?”

“Mhm, didn’t you say it was uncomfortable?” Gu Changqing responded.

“I… didn’t say that,” Gu Yan said with wide, serious eyes.

Although he hadn’t complained verbally, his constant shifting while sitting betrayed his discomfort. Gu Changqing wasn’t foolish; he had the saddle changed once he noticed this.

“Would you dislike it?” Gu Yan asked.

Gu Changqing replied, “No.”

If you like it, I like it too.

Gu Yan chuckled and pressed him to hurry up. “Quick, quick, quick! Don’t let my mother notice! Otherwise, I won’t be able to leave!”

The Yao Family, who had already noticed: “…”

Gu Changqing tightened the reins, nodded respectfully at the Yao family from a distance, indicating that he would look after Gu Yan properly and safely bring him back home.

Seeing how clingy her son was to Gu Changqing, Yao Family felt mixed emotions.

Her son had always wanted an older brother. Now they had one, but it was the person who had hurt him when he was young. If he found out the truth, she wasn’t sure how he would cope.

“Giddy-up!”

Gu Yan sat in front of Gu Changqing, both his hands gripping the reins, repeatedly commanding “giddy-up”.
