Ning Zhiyuan expressed his skepticism, "Really?"
Xiao Liulang nodded, "Yeah."
"Then..." Ning Zhiyuan glanced toward the end of the alley, "Your sister-in-law didn’t come to pick you up today, let me find a carriage to take you back."
"That’s not necessary," Xiao Liulang declined his kind offer.
Xiao Liulang seemed easy to talk to in front of friends, but once he became stubborn, nobody could persuade him. Ning Zhiyuan had no choice but to let him be.
Xiao Liulang wandered aimlessly down the street, holding his cane. When he had left the clothing store, he had almost fled in a panic, never looking back to see her face...
But her voice was deeply etched in his mind, circling incessantly, impossible to dismiss.
The sky had started pouring rain at some point, and pedestrians hurried to find shelter, all but Xiao Liulang, who was completely oblivious, walking slowly in the heavy downpour.
It wasn’t until a young, tender voice appeared beside him that he suddenly snapped back to reality.
"Brother-in-law, what are you doing, not using an umbrella?"
It was Xiao Jingkong.
Xiao Jingkong held up a small yellow umbrella that Gu Jiao had made for him, looking up in bewilderment at Xiao Liulang, who was soaked like a drowned rat.
Only then did Xiao Liulang realize he had unconsciously made his way to the entrance of the National Academy.
"Are you here to pick me up today?" Xiao Jingkong asked, holding the small yellow umbrella.
It was not yet time to finish school for the day, but Xiao Jingkong had completed his work early and was allowed to leave school ahead of schedule.
"Yeah," Xiao Liulang responded indifferently, then told the little guy, "Let’s go."
Xiao Jingkong didn’t move, "You don’t have an umbrella!"
"I don’t have one," Xiao Liulang answered, then paused and added, "I don’t need one."
"Here, take mine," Xiao Jingkong extended the umbrella toward him.
"You use it yourself," Xiao Liulang refused. How could he possibly take a child’s umbrella? What would he do with it? The umbrella was so small it definitely wouldn’t cover two people.
"I have a raincoat," Xiao Jingkong said.
The raincoat that Jiaojiao had made for him!
It even had big red flowers that he had painted himself!
Xiao Jingkong handed the umbrella to Xiao Liulang, who still held it for him, while Xiao Jingkong rummaged through his school bag, quickly put on his small yellow raincoat, and then took off his shoes, holding them in his hands, and started splashing his bare feet in the water.
