Evelyn did not even have time to react. Her hand clutched at her lower abdomen as she looked up in shock.
Jason's face darkened, and blood could be seen on the corner of his mouth.
On the contrary, Blake strode forward with a fierce expression on his face. Without giving him any chance to explain, he grabbed Jason by the collar.
"What the hell were you doing? Don't you know who she is? You had the nerve to put your hands on her?"
Jason had never suffered this kind of humiliation before. He immediately returned the punch.
"Please show some respect to both me and Ms. Reed!"
Blake licked the corner of his mouth. He let out a cold laugh and lunged forward again.
Respect? The scene just now—was it not too intimate? Even Jason's ears were flushed red!
Seeing that the two of them were about to get into a full-blown fight, Evelyn stepped between them.
"Blake! Stop acting like a lunatic!" she said, her face pale.
Blake stopped and turned to her. "So, you consented to it?" he asked with a sneer.
He curled his lips and clicked his tongue. "Could've said so earlier. You really are something. Sleeping with your husband's friend, huh? Aren't you worried that the two of them would discuss their respective experiences with you?"
Evelyn's face went deathly pale, and her jaw clenched hard. She could not believe that Blake would say something like that about her.
Jason's fist landed on Blake's face with a loud thud. "Mr. Harrison, do not insult her like that!"
Blake winced from the pain. Just as he was about to retaliate, the sounds of police sirens approached.
At the police station, Evelyn had a splitting headache. Her face was colder to the touch than before.
Blake's personality was always difficult to handle. Maybe he'd misunderstood and lashed out on instinct, trying to protect her.
But what he said afterward was not protection. It was pure degradation.
It made her feel suffocated, ridiculed even.
They each needed someone to sign their bail after they gave their statements.
Jessica rushed into Blake's arms right after arriving. She gently caressed the bruise at the corner of his mouth. "What happened? How did you get into a fight?"
Blake wrapped his arm around her. "It's nothing," he said nonchalantly.
She was both anxious and angry. She looked around and spotted Jason and Evelyn sitting on a bench nearby, one injured and the other expressionless.
Jessica's eyes went red as she questioned, "Evelyn, you're here too? Why didn't you stop him? What exactly happened?"
She knew Jason well enough. While they weren't close, they would not possibly be throwing punches at each other like this.
Evelyn looked at her, emotionless. She did not have the mood to deal with Jessica right now.
She walked over to Jason, her lips pressed together. "Did you call someone over yet?" she asked.
Seeing her so calm despite being upset, Jason gave a light cough and replied, "I did. Mason will be here soon."
Evelyn nodded. After a pause, she added, "Sorry."
No matter what, the whole thing started because of her. Blake had lashed out because of her.
Even if their relationship was strained, some habits never changed. He saw that something was wrong and acted without thinking.
