Duke Leander could only blame himself for this.
It was a parent’s responsibility to educate their children. Had he been more capable, his precious son would have received better guidance.
But what could they do? Even if he crucified himself for the past, it would still be the present that mattered.
"My son! It’s okay if you don’t get top marks in class or can’t pilot a mecha! Just promise your Papa you won’t be a scumbag!"
While the Duke would, of course, be proud of a well-performing son, they didn’t have a child to get a perfect specimen!
And right now, a free son who was a good person would be good enough for a gutted Duke.
"Son, it’s your Papa’s fault for failing to do my duties, but even so, you have to understand that actions have consequences."
"Look at Steward Han! Your mother said that Steward Han was cursed to go bald because he’s a scumbag!"
"Your Grace! Was a scumbag! That was 25 years ago! And we’re even married now!" Screamed the Steward who was miraculously dragged into this father’s lecture!
He was a silent bystander who now wanted to spew blood as he was used to teach wayward sons.
"Yes! Exactly! That was once! Now look at you!"
"See? Son, this is why you cannot be like this." The Duke pointed at the Steward’s head as he tried to convince his blinking progeny.
But the Steward cannot say anything as the Duke was right about not being a scumbag, and as an adult, he was supposed to promote good morals and proper conduct!
But can he please stop it with the hair?! It was really a one-time thing of getting cold feet!
Luca was listening intently, trying to understand what his father meant.
Was that shiny senior from the cafeteria also a scumbag?
But why was he a scumbag?
The little money-grubber was wondering what he did that would make him one.
Was it because he almost burned Xavier’s face?
Or was it the clothes that they couldn’t save?
It wasn’t that he cared about being bald, but his father was probably right about him being a scumbag.
Even now, he still hadn’t offered compensation for Xavier.
"I—I’m sorry, Papa. That was wrong of me. I will compensate him, I promise!"
The Duke felt faint and weak! That was precisely what a scumbag would say! If his wife was here to hear this, he, as the failure of a father, may not have a house to go back to!
"Son! There are things that we cannot just compensate with money, such as a person’s innocence and dignity."
"..."
Hell.
Xavier longed to be burned to a crisp.
At this point, he felt like he understood what the Duke was thinking.
It wasn’t the little chipmunk who was done.
To everyone else, it was him.
He had been done by his little chipmunk.
Someone just kill him now.
What kind of pot was he carrying, and why was it practically impossible to unload the contents?
Luca had to process the Duke’s words and was unsure until D-29 attempted to help him.
"Host, remember how you wanted to make sure Xavier couldn’t back out? Maybe it’s because you might run away from your responsibilities." Offered D-29, who could only look back at the recordings.
Oh yeah! Luca thought as he remembered how he was also unsure about Xavier’s conviction.
It was only after the contract that he felt reassured about their agreement. And so far, the benefactor had given him way more than what was due!
Yeah.
It seemed like he was behaving badly!
Then again, they already have one in place now. It’s just that his father didn’t know.
But in hindsight, he probably shouldn’t have mentioned it.
"About that, Papa, I also promised to take responsibility by being exclusive and hard-working." Luca tried to recall his promises and thought how he had been fateful about everything up until recently.
Oh.
No.
I guided my father! Was that grounds for breaking their exclusivity?!
The little chipmunk panicked and checked on his ring, trying to see if he had broken the contract by guiding someone else.
Unfaithful? How? The little chipmunk has been in sight nearly every day; how was it even possible to be cheating?
Unfaithful?
Cheating?!
How could that be?!
