519.Chapter 519
Sarah’s words, saying the messenger collapsed outside, were a polite understatement.
In truth, the man had been gravely injured, and after handing Sarah the letter, he had taken his last breath.
When Sarah saw this, she realized something serious had happened.
She quickly took the letter and rushed from the Saint Grace Nunnery to Eliza.
Diana immediately grabbed the letter, and when she saw the seal of the Baker family, she didn’t care who was around her. She quickly tore open the envelope and read the letter.
“This… this is my father’s handwriting. Something happened to my father and grandfather,” Diana staggered, her hand shaking as she held the letter. She almost couldn’t keep her balance.
Eliza rushed to support her, asking, “What’s wrong? Weren’t they on their way to Hasen City?”
Diana’s eyes were fixed on the contents of the letter as she gritted her teeth. “I’ve just exposed the news that I was going to be made empress.”
Eliza instantly understood, her voice filled with dread. “So someone in Hasen City couldn’t wait any longer and sent people to kill Emmitt and the others?”
Diana’s eyes were red with rage as she nodded fiercely. “Yes. My grandfather and the others were already close to leaving Hasen City when they were ambushed. Now my father’s badly injured and unable to move, and someone needs to save him. But my grandfather… he’s missing, lost in the water. We don’t know where he is or what’s happened to him.”
Emmitt was already elderly, and the water was deep and cold. If he had managed to get to shore quickly, he might have been fine.
But if he hadn’t made it out of the water, how long could he possibly survive?
Diana’s voice trembled as she spoke, her grip tightening on the letter. “I’m going to gather people and rescue my father. I have to find my grandfather.”
“Wait,” Eliza said, quickly grabbing her arm. “Diana, you can’t leave Hasen City right now.”
“No! I have to go!” Diana’s panic was evident as she pleaded, “If I don’t, my father and grandfather will be in real danger!”
Eliza took both of Diana’s hands, pressing them firmly against her face. She looked into her eyes, her voice steady. “Diana, listen to me. If you leave now, Hubert and Emmitt will truly be in danger.”
With lightning speed, Eliza continued, analyzing the situation. “Think about it. The reason Hubert and Emmitt were attacked is because your plan to enter the palace as empress was leaked. They tried to stop it, but even if they killed Hubert and Emmitt, it wouldn’t change the imperial decree. The only way they can stop this now is by killing you.”
“But you’re here, under the protection of the Emperor’s feet, in the Saint Grace Nunnery. If you stay here and don’t leave the mountain, they can’t touch you. That’s why they attacked Hubert and Emmitt – to lure you out of the Saint Grace Nunnery and Hasen City.
“If you go out to save them, the assassins will show no mercy. You can’t go.”
After hearing Eliza’s words, Diana finally calmed down, albeit reluctantly.
Diana asked, “Then what should I do?”
Eliza replied, “Right now, there are people in Hasen City watching your every move, not only to send messages to the assassins but also to prepare to act the moment you leave the city.”
Eliza stroked her chin, thinking rapidly. “But there’s a delay in sending messages, and we can use that to our advantage – stall them, buy time, and use it to rescue people.”
Diana asked, “How do we stall them? How do we buy time?”
Diana gripped Eliza’s hand tightly.
Eliza pressed her gently onto a chair and continued, “You stay here. Only in Hasen City can you buy the time we need. As for saving people, I’ll handle it.”
“What? No, that’s not possible.” Diana shot to her feet, immediately objecting. “His Highness just told us that Hasen City is dangerous and that you should stay off the mountain Plus vou’re the Holy Lady, and many people are watching you. If you leave without permission, it will only draw unw Successfully unlocked!
unlocked!lems.”
Eliza calmly patted Diana’s shoulder and smiled. Hasen City is anycous because of one group, but outside Hasen City, there’s no such threat. For me, it’s not as dangerous.”
She placed one of her insects in front of Diana, saying, “Remember, I still have these little guys. They’ll protect me, and they‘ re much more useful when it comes to tracking people. I’ll take them and rescue Hubert and Emmitt quickly.”
