525.Chapter 525
Vaughn looked at Eliza, his expression softening. “I see… Thank you again for saving me earlier. I do know where Hubert is, but if I take you there now, those people might spot us.”
After hearing this, Vaughn finally relaxed completely.
Hubert had told him earlier that in his letter to his daughter, he had instructed her not to come to his aid. He had never asked her to come rescue him.
So, if Eliza had claimed to be Hubert’s daughter right away, Vaughn wouldn’t have trusted her so quickly.
Eliza reassured him, “Vaughn, don’t worry. The spies around here have been dealt with. You can take me to Hubert. Also, if you know where Emmitt is, please tell me as well. I’d appreciate it.”
With that, Eliza stood up and gave Vaughn a polite bow.
Vaughn immediately reached out to help her, shaking his head. “No need for that. It was nothing. I would have done the same for anyone, so please don’t stand on ceremony.”
But his face turned serious again as he added, “As for Emmitt, Hubert told me he was thrown into the water at the East Dock. With the recent rains, the currents have been rough. He was swept away. I’ve tried to search for him twice, but I haven’t found him. It’s been days now… I fear…*
Vaughn trailed off, his unspoken words hanging in the air. Eliza frowned immediately, but she didn’t say much.
Though she suspected Emmitt was likely in grave danger, now that she was here, she couldn’t give up without looking for him, especially not for Diana’s sake.
Her mind raced, and she summoned half of her insects in Vollult Town to head towards the East Dock and the riverbank.
She even sent some of them with her magical water.
If they found Emmitt, she could bring him back from the brink of death, even if he only had the faintest breath left.
Once she had prepared, she signaled Vaughn to take her to Hubert.
Before they left, Vaughn said he needed to gather more herbs.
But when Eliza saw what he had brought out, her eyes widened in disbelief.
“Vaughn, aren’t these poison herbs?” she asked.
Vaughn looked up, noticing the wary look in her eyes. He immediately slapped his forehead and hurriedly explained, “Ah, I must’ve forgotten to mention it to you. Hubert’s wound wasn’t just caused by the knife–there’s poison in it.
“I can’t deal with that poison, so I was thinking, if it comes to it, we could try using poison against poison or even a blood transfusion, anything to save him.”
Vaughn had been worried about potential complications, so he decided to bring these poisons along, in case he needed them for self–defense or to fight the poison.
“I see,” Eliza replied, her wariness dissipating. She had almost thought she’d misjudged him.
Vaughn smiled, rubbing his beard, but then his eyes widened. “Wait, you recognized the poison?” he asked, his surprise evident.
The herbs he had taken out could be both medicine and poison, but even someone who was familiar with medicinal herbs might not know their toxic properties.
Yet, here was Eliza, recognizing them immediately.
“Did you learn about poisons?” Vaughn’s eyes lit up as he realized what had just dawned on him.
Eliza nodded without hesitation. “Yes, I have.”
“That’s great!” Vaughn exclaimed. “Maybe you can help clear the poison from Hubert’s wound.” With that thought, Vaughn quickly gathered his things and hurried out, ready to take Eliza to Hubert. Though the spies had been cleared, Vaughn was still cautious and led Eliza out through the back door. After taking several winding paths, they finally reached the chicken coop where Hubert was hidden. Eliza could already smell the strong odor from

With those two barriers, it was no wonder no o.
But it also meant her insects couldn’t get through.
While the insects weren’t helpless against the chickens, the presence of their natural enemies made them instinctively avoid the area unless Eliza specifically commanded them to approach.
