It all started with Eliza’s poisonous bugs.
The last few venomous centipedes held out the longest under the snow, but the freezing cold eventually forced them to search for a slightly warmer spot.
Finding warmth beneath the snow seemed impossible, but to their surprise, they stumbled upon a small hole.
Initially, they were just looking for warmth. However, the lead centipede kept crawling deeper, and the others followed. Before long, they discovered an incredibly spacious area hidden inside.
Eliza immediately ordered a few Black Flag soldiers to dig at the spot where the centipedes had gathered. What they uncovered was a massive opening, wide enough for five or six people to walk side by side, or even for a carriage to pass through with ease.
As it turned out, the location was less than twenty–five feet away from the tree the scout had mentioned.
“So, they didn’t actually disappear? They used the avalanche as cover to hide in this cave?” Eliza asked, her tone filled with surprise as she stepped closer to the entrance and peered inside.
“That seems the case,” Nolan replied, stepping into the cave. Sure enough, he spotted tracks–clear evidence of people and carts having passed through.
“This cave runs deep. It’s likely leading somewhere significant,” Nolan muttered, his eyes scanning the dark, spacious tunnel.
As he thought about the massive mountain outside, several times larger than the surrounding peaks, a sudden realization struck him. ‘Could the Malone family’s true base be hidden in this mountain?‘
The avalanche was a ruse. The so–called disappearance was a lie.
Jefferson and his men had reached their destination. The avalanche was staged to keep Nolan’s team in the dark. It buried Rayden, the Immortality Pills, and even Nolan’s scouts, making it seem like everyone had perished in the snow.
But in reality, they had made it to their hidden stronghold.
Nolan clenched his fists, his mind racing. He was almost certain this had to be the Malone family’s lie.
To be safe, they had to go in and check it out.
“Serenity…” Nolan had just called out Eliza’s name when she immediately guessed what he was about to say.
She shook her head firmly. “I’m not going back. With me here, you’ll be safer. Especially in a place like this, my poisonous bugs are perfect for scouting.”
The tunnel was pitch black, its depths seemingly endless, which was a perfect setup for an ambush. If Nolan and his team went in blindly, danger would be inevitable.
“But your health…” Nolan grabbed her arm, his concern evident. The cold there was bone–chilling, and anyone unaccustomed to it, no matter how strong, could easily fall ill.
Eliza was already trembling, the icy air seeping into her body.
Still, she was holding up better than most. Any other one might not have lasted even an hour,
After hours of travel and three more spent in this freezing environment, Eliza finally felt the cold creeping in.
But she brushed it off, pulling out her thermos and taking a sip of warm water mixed with the magical water. The heat spread through her, chasing away the chill.
“Let’s move,” she said decisively. “I’ll scout ahead. You all stay alert.”
Seeing she could still hold her ground, Nolan had no choice but to let her stay.
Deep down, though, while he wanted her to go back to safety, he also couldn’t bear the thought of her leaving him.
Yes, it was dangerous, but having her close meant he could protect her if anything happened.
If he sent her back, he’d only end up worrying even more.
“Head back to Centrina City and bring two thousand men. Use my orders to surround this place.” Nolan pointed to one of his men and commanded.
Turning to two others, he added, “You two stay Successfully unlocked! after the injured. If anyone tries to leave, kill
them if you can. If not, memorize their faces. W
With the arrangements made, Nolan immediately turned and followed Eliza, leading the remaining Black Flag soldiers deeper into the tunnel.
As they had suspected, the tunnel stretched endlessly into the depths.
