“Your mother isn’t Zoie Case?” Eliza was both shocked and furious. “Then who is your mother?”

That question wiped the grin off Rafe’s face. He sat on the ground in silence for a couple of seconds before finally replying, “My mother is dead. Even if you knew who she was, what difference would it make? If you’re really that curious, why don’t you go ask Father yourself and have him tell you?”

A mocking smile tugged at his lips. “Take me with you, Eliza. I want to ask him a fethings too.”

Eliza didn’t care what Van wanted to ask, but the rage boiling in her chest was about to erupt.

“Fine! But if you’re lying, I swear–I don’t care if I’ve taken vows–I’ll make you pay for it!” Eliza spat, her voice cold and

venomous.

Without waiting for a response, she turned around and stormed off.

Nolan ordered someone to keep an eye on Rafe before hurrying after Eliza and calling, “Serenity!”

After leaving the governor’s mansion, Eliza trudged through the falling snow back to the camp, then dove straight into the pocket farm.

Inside, she stood before Caroline’s grave, speechless for the first time. She didn’t know how to tell her mother that the man she called father had betrayed Caroline–not once, but twice.

Once is a mistake. Twice is a pattern. Eliza didn’t believe that was the end of Gabriel’s betrayal.

“Mother… he deserves to die. He really does!” Eliza cried out, her voice trembling with fury. “How could he do this to you and the Padilla family?”

The fury and hatred inside Eliza surged wildly. She was at her breaking point.

The spiritual energy in the pocket farm was influenced by her emotions, swirling chaotically around her.

But Eliza didn’t notice any of it. Her mind was still replaying Rafe’s words.

Even though Rafe hadn’t revealed who his mother was, Eliza was already almost certain.
