621.Chapter 621
A muffled thud echoed from below. Standing at the cliff’s edge, Rafe leaned forward, peering down with a satisfied smirk.” Not bad. That fall had some style.”
Dusting off his clothes with one hand, he chuckled. “Alright, time to go claim my credit from dear Eliza.”
As he brushed off the dirt, he casually twirled a lock of hair in his other hand.
It was Anthony’s, swiped with a sly touch at some point.
With the lock of hair in hand, Rafe headed back to Hasen City without delay.
His first stop was the Black Flag camp, hoping to find Eliza, but she was nowhere to be seen.
So, he made his way into Centrina City and found her in a newly opened apothecary, carefully arranging herbs on the shelves. “Need a hand?”
Eliza turned her head at the sound and saw Rafe standing there, his grin as mischievous as ever.
“Done already?” she asked, raising an eyebrow in mild surprise.
Rafe nodded eagerly, like a kid showing off a new trick. “Killing is an easy–peasy for your little bro!” he said, puffing out his chest.
“Look, I even brought Anthony’s hair as proof. Want to check it out, sis?” he added, holding up the strands with a smug look.
“No need,” Eliza replied coolly, not even sparing the hair a glance.
“Seriously? Do you trust me that much?” Rafe exclaimed, his eyes lighting up with excitement.
But his excitement was short–lived.
Eliza gave him a cold glance, then stepped forward and calmly rested her hand on his shoulder.
Rafe froze, his grin vanishing as his body instinctively tensed up. ‘What’s she up to now?‘ he wondered nervously.
A moment later, she withdrew her hand.
Rafe’s gaze dropped to her hand, and his eyes widened as he spotted a tiny, nearly translucent spider crawling on her skin.” What the Is that some kind of venomous parasite?”
He recognized the creature from his time with the Malone family. “Wait, are you a sorcerer too, sis?” he asked, his curiosity piqued.
Eliza dismissed the idea with a curt, “No.”
Before he could ask more, she added, “They are poisonous bugs. But if it helps, you can think of them as parasites.” Her tone made it clear she wasn’t interested in explaining further.
Eliza learned every detail of Rafe’s actions from the little spider, including Anthony’s fall off the cliff. Only then did she confirm that Rafe had truly taken care of him.
Out of Rafe’s sight, she slipped the spider back into her pocket farm and tossed him a pill.
“You can leave now.” She turned her back to him and resumed sorting through the remaining herbs.
Rafe caught the pill mid–air and swallowed it without hesitation. “Sis, you’re so cold. I did exactly what you asked, and you can’t even give me a little praise?” he said, his tone a mix of teasing and disappointment.
Eliza shot him down without hesitation. “This was a deal, not a favor.”
Her meaning was clear. Completing the task was part of the agreement, and he should not expect any praise.
Besides, she doubted Rafe’s “praise” was as innocent as it sounded.
