Lila choked on Amelia's bold remarks, desperately wanting to cover her mouth.
"What, are you two former convicts? How do you have such self-control? You stared at each other all night and still slept like saints?"
Amelia paced back and forth across the office with an incredulous expression, muttering, "This doesn't make sense. Something's off here."
Lila massaged her temples. "Can you stop pacing? I'm getting dizzy just watching you."
Amelia leaned down, pressing half of her weight onto Lila. "Come on, tell me what happened!"
The two were so close that Lila had no choice but to lean back. Their positions were strangely ambiguous.
And that was exactly the moment Michael walked in without knocking.
He froze, his gaze locking with Amelia's. Then, he blurted, "Is the Joyce family planning to end their bloodline?"
The room fell silent.
Amelia straightened up and shot him a glare. "Shut up! Say that again, and I'll—"
Her outrageous retort was cut off when Lila clamped a hand over her mouth.
Lila turned to Michael with a forced smile. "Don't mind her. What's up? Did you need something?"
Michael quickly composed himself and got to the point. "I do. I have an event next month, but my manager won't be available.
I was hoping you could accompany me instead."
He tactfully ignored the earlier scene and swiftly outlined the reason for his visit.
Amelia smirked. "Well, you won't get the chance. Starting tomorrow, she's going on her honeymoon."
A trace of surprise flickered in his eyes. He hadn't expected Lila and Kieran to be already planning their honeymoon. Did that mean they'd already gotten their marriage license?
His gaze dropped as if something had occurred to him.
Lila asked, "When is your event?"
"Mid-next month, so there's about a month left."
"That works. I'll be back by then. I'll get in touch with you when the time comes."
A month should be enough to finish her time off.
After Michael left, Amelia returned to her seat. "After what Shannon did to you, you're okay with Michael?"
"He didn't know."
