Chapter 424: Defending Lian’s honour

Sirius arched his brow as one of his attendants handed him a glass of liquor. He walked over to her with slow, measured strides, his presence overpowering. "Business?" he said, voice dripping with disdain. "I never do business with the scum of the Republic."

"Not even my half-brother?" Peng Xiu retorted, sneering.

Sirius snorted, taking a sip of his drink before sitting down. He placed the glass on the table and turned it slightly, his fingers playing with the rim before he leaned back into the couch.

"You know you won’t win this war," Peng Xiu continued, her tone unwavering. "So, what is it exactly that you want? Whatever it is, I will get it for you."

A twisted smile curled on Sirius’s lips. "I might not win, but I will take the Republic down with me." He looked at her, eyes gleaming with a chilling determination. In that moment, Sirius embodied the very essence of the Grim Reaper.

Peng Xiu’s eyes gleamed with determination as she leaned forward. "I can give you my half-brother as part of the bargain, and we can establish a peace treaty."

Sirius’s lips twisted into a mocking smile. "You don’t have the power to do that."

"You underestimate the influence I have on Han Xin," Peng Xiu shot back.

Sirius chuckled, finding her audacity amusing. He slapped his thigh and said, "What influence... you are so delusional. That man sees right through you, especially when Yu Yu is around."

Peng Xiu’s jaw clenched in rage, the words hitting her like a punch. This was her breaking point. The last person who suggested Han Xin didn’t care for her had faced her wrath, nearly losing their life in the process. She fought the overwhelming urge to kill Sirius and cut him down, summoning every ounce of restraint she had.

"That’s not the type of influence I am referring to," she said through gritted teeth. "I have something that would place him in the palm of my hand."

Sirius’s curiosity was piqued. He leaned forward, his gaze fixed on her. "What might that be, Your Highness?" freeweɓnovel.cøm

Peng Xiu sneered a glint of defiance in her eyes. "Now, why would I tell you that and show my hand?"

Sirius leaned back, acknowledging her caution with a nod. "Fair," he said, taking a sip of his liquor. The liquid burned his throat, but the sensation was soothing in its own way.

"As a sign of goodwill let me tell you a secret... My brother is no longer in the imperial capital. He escaped," Peng Xiu revealed.

Sirius’s interest was piqued further, his stare intensifying. "He escaped a long time ago, and I am certain Han Xin is looking for him," she continued.

Sirius’s jaw clenched so tightly it seemed it might break. "Where is he?" he demanded.

Peng Xiu shrugged nonchalantly. "I don’t know. But if I find out anything, you will be the first to know."

Sirius gulped down the rest of his liquor, his head tilting back slightly as he absorbed the information. He had to find Xiang Yu first. Once he had him in his hands he would have the upper hand.
