Everything happened too suddenly. No one present noticed the abnormality of the soldier, and by the time the others reacted, the great sword radiating cold light had already slashed down.
At the critical moment, the space around Rolf suddenly distorted, and a silent, bubble-like film appeared and wrapped him within.
High-level apprentice defensive magic: [Water Bubble].
Lynch’s all-out strike only managed to cause rippling water waves on the surface of the bubble, but Rolf beneath remained completely unharmed.
However, Lynch’s offensive did not stop there.
"Boom!"
A ball of fire burst into fierce flames on the sword blade. Holding the sword erupting in fire, Lynch swung several more strikes.
As the fire met the bubble, sizzling sounds erupted, and under the extreme heat, the bubble’s film bubbled like boiling water, white smoke rising with sizzles as the violent waves pushed Rolf several meters away.
Before Rolf could stabilize himself, the space around him distorted once more, as another forceful elemental attack tried to tear through the surrounding bubble.
At the same time.
"Whizz!" A sharp piercing whistle burst forth. freewebnøvel.coɱ
A rapidly spinning white Bone Spear shot in from afar.
Zero-ring mid-level undead magic: [Bone Spear].
The Bone Spear originated from William Heim’s Undead Castle—it was the same attack William Heim used to pierce through Lynch’s Multi-element Shield before. Curious after the event, Lynch took the time to research and successfully mastered it during this period.
Strictly speaking, this was not a conventional spell; it required a casting medium for its release, which meant pre-refining the Bone Spear. The strength of the spear directly determined the spell’s potency.
William Heim’s Bone Spear was crafted from a segment of a Behemoth beast’s shinbone—considered comparable to a Second-tier Life Judge in resilience. This was precisely why it had such astounding power, effortlessly shattering Lynch’s High-level apprentice Multi-element Shield.
Rolf’s legitimate High-level apprentice magic Water Bubble was naturally stronger in defense than Lynch’s mid-level apprentice magic. Yet, under the combined assault of [Space Distortion] and [Bone Spear], it exceeded its limits.
With a resounding "Boom!", the bubble-like film was blasted open, leaving a gap.
"Whoosh!"
The sound of the rushing wind echoed as Lynch appeared in front of Rolf once again.
"My lord!"
"My lord, be careful!"
The surrounding knights looked aghast.
Rolf’s gaze sharpened, several spells already charging.
"Clink!"
A crisp sound like shattered glass rang out, as a translucent object resembling a glass bottle slipped into the gap blown open in the Water Bubble. Following a sharp "Bang!", the bottle exploded.
Inside was a mysterious, viscous black liquid. As soon as the glass bottle shattered, this liquid splattered everywhere.
Rolf immediately cast a Water Column to try and wash the liquid away. Strangely, the liquid seemed impervious to Rolf’s spell, piercing through the Water Column and sprinkling over him like raindrops.
Suddenly, the liquid morphed into a series of black runes. As they flashed on Rolf’s body, they quickly disappeared.
’What is this? A curse? A mark?’
Rolf quickly distanced himself from Lynch, all the while working to restore his defensive magic and carefully examining his condition. Yet, no abnormalities could be detected. The markings seemed to be some sort of imprint.
Marks were typically non-aggressive and complicated to dispel. After confirming they were not a type of curse, Rolf decided to temporarily set them aside.
His gaze returned to Lynch ahead.
Though the series of events seemed lengthy in description, from Lynch’s sudden attack to their current separation, only a few breaths had passed.
It was only at this moment that Rolf genuinely laid eyes on the mastermind repeatedly sabotaging their plans.
He narrowed his eyes and asked, "What did you do to me?"
Lynch replied straightforwardly, "A mark."
Rolf sneered, "Is coughing up spit all you can do before dying?"
Lynch shrugged. "Who knows? Maybe it’s a death omen."
Rolf couldn’t understand Lynch’s cryptic words, nor did he care to figure them out. Too much time had already been wasted. Since he had found Lynch... Lynch must now die!
The battle erupted instantly.
Rolf raised his hand, producing a series of cracking sounds as a row of ice spikes materialized above him. With a quick gesture toward Lynch, the spikes shot forward swiftly.
The ice spikes moved at an incredible pace. Even with the agility of a mid-level knight, Lynch narrowly dodged them.
Just barely avoiding the spikes, Rolf immediately clenched his hand.
Suddenly, the spikes, which had just missed Lynch and embedded themselves around him, emitted blinding blue light before erupting in a deafening "Boom!".
The earth was torn apart, ice shards mixed with soil scattering everywhere, leaving behind a crater over ten meters in diameter.
But within the crater, Lynch was nowhere to be seen.
"Above!" a knight shouted.
Rolf instinctively looked up, spotting Lynch atop a nearby tree. Above, dark clouds rapidly gathered before releasing crackling lightning bolts straight toward him.
"Crackling sounds echoed!"
Dense purple lightning bit fiercely into Rolf’s bubble-like film, causing it to tremble incessantly and ripple with waves. Thunder Element naturally had a partial advantage over Water Element attributes.
Unfortunately, this elemental counterbalance couldn’t overcome the difference in magic levels. After a surge of ripples, the film finally steadied.
’It really is multi-element refinement!’
Though impressed by Lynch’s abilities, Rolf didn’t halt his counterattack, snapping his right fingers swiftly.
A considerable amount of Water Element rapidly gathered beside Lynch, forming a basketball-sized water ball before exploding in a torrent. The tree Lynch stood upon was obliterated upon impact, water droplets spraying furiously.
Rolf clenched his right hand again, freezing the scattered water droplets mid-air, quickly stretching them into thin Ice Needles.
With a casual wave of his hand, the multitude of Ice Needles surged toward Lynch.
Given their density, escape was impossible. Lynch could only hastily deploy his Multi-element Shield. A cacophony of "Snap! Snap!" sounds rang out incessantly as the Ice Needles assaulted the shield, shaking it violently.
"Whoosh!"
