Nina just wanted to scare him, but now her life was in danger. "Please, Luther, help me!" she begged.

Anyone would feel awful hearing her pleas. Luther was about to rush to her aid when someone gripped his wrist tightly.

He turned to see Pearl, her face filled with concern.

"You're a good swimmer, but it's too risky to go further," she said, pulling him back from the water.

Luther paused, then took out his phone. "I'll call for help!"

The coast guard arrived in five minutes, but by then, Nina had disappeared.

"I caused this," Luther murmured, sitting down, looking defeated.

"This isn't your fault," Pearl reassured him, sitting beside him and patting his shoulder. "She made her own choice. You couldn't have stopped her if she really wanted to kill herself."

Pearl wasn't an evil person, but she didn't sympathize with people who harmed themselves for attention. Nina had walked into danger without thinking of the risks. If Luther went to save her, two lives might be lost.

"It's not your fault," she repeated.

"But she's my sister, and I hurt her with my words," Luther said, his head bowed. They hadn't been close for six years, but he still felt responsible for her.
