Martha sat stiffly on the couch, her anger still simmering.

"Mom," Carlisle said, walking toward her.

Martha shot him a cold, disdainful look. "Don't call me that. Right now, all you can think about is protecting that temptress. I don't even exist to you anymore."

Hearing Martha's sarcastic tone, Carlisle frowned as he sat down beside her.

He leaned back against the couch and gave her a mocking look. "Stop calling her a temptress. If it weren't for you meddling all those years ago, she would've been your daughter-in-law by now."

The words hit a nerve with Martha, and she immediately flew into a rage, grabbing a pillow and throwing it at Carlisle. "How dare you bring that up? You still haven't given up on her, have you?"

Martha stood up from the couch and coldly questioned, "What's so great about her? After all these years, can't you see her true nature? If I had let go and supported you two back then, do you know where the Zachman family would be today?

"Have you ever thought that if the Zachmans collapsed, you'd end up a poor nobody? Do you think that woman would even give you a second glance?"

She paused before continuing, "Do you really think a woman like her, who only cares about money, would stay with you when things get tough? Don't be so naive, Carlisle! If it weren't for Evelyn and the Farrells, you wouldn't have the Zachman family today.

"You wouldn't even have the money to support that woman and her daughter. I thought you'd finally see what kind of person she is after everything you've been through. But no, you've fallen for her completely. And worse, you're dragging my grandson into this, forcing him to marry her daughter!"

Martha pointed her finger at Carlisle's chest as she looked at him with disappointment. "Look into your heart, Carlisle. Ask yourself—who are you doing this for? How are you going to face Evelyn? Can you really look her in the eye?"

"Don't bring up Evelyn!" Carlisle exploded, shoving Martha away.
