Krystal paired a shirt with high-waisted palazzo pants. Naturally, she wore a lab coat as well. Her short hair was trimmed neatly, and she had light makeup on, accentuating her natural beauty.
She looked at Melody and said in a flat voice, "This is my spot. Can you find yourself another seat?"
Things immediately became awkward.
The embarrassed Melody took her tray of food and apologized, "I'm sorry."
She turned around and glanced at Jeremy, only to see that he was still staring at his phone. He couldn't even be bothered to lift his gaze.
Krystal sat across from him and said nonchalantly, "It's a good thing you reserved the seat for me. That's going to make it easier for me to talk to you. The patient on bed number nine suffers from angioma. When is his surgery scheduled for?"
They proceeded to talk about work as if no one else were present. Meanwhile, Melody swept her gaze across the cafeteria, looking for a seat.
The table was only big enough for six people, to begin with. Harold, Caleb, Jeremy, Krystal, Tiffany, and another doctor, who went by the name of Susan Mack, already occupied the table, forcing Melody to look for other seats.
The only problem was the number of people in the cafeteria during lunch break. She couldn't find a seat for a moment, standing there alone with her tray of food. It almost seemed like she was excluded by everyone, making her look a little pitiable.
Harold rose to his feet with his tray of food before saying to her, "We have something to talk about, anyway. Come on, let's find someplace else. We don't have to mingle with them."
His tone was somewhat playful when he spoke, but everyone was aware he was going out of his way to comfort Melody.
Tiffany saw it and immediately commented, "What are you two talking about? I have to be a part of it. I'm the only one who can have common secrets with Melody, not you!"
Her words caused everyone to smile.
Caleb grumbled, "What makes you think you're entitled to something like that? Are you Ms. Wardolf's mom or something?"
Tiffany put everything back into her tray as she got up. Then, she gave him a look, saying, "I may not be her mom, but I can certainly be your worst nightmare!"
