“Thank you for the hard work, Madam Hemingway,” Master Harris said.
Madam Hemingway smiled. “There’s no need for such courtesies! Harris Corporation has sponsored our hospital with so many medical equipment, even providing grants for our research work. I’m the one who has no idea how to thank you.”
Master Harris was not in the mood for small talk. He asked directly, “Who is in charge of this check-up?”
“It’s Dr. Channing and Dr. Lent. One is an experienced veteran at the hospital while the other is a new intern. They’re waiting on the seventh floor,” said Madam Hemingway.
Master Harris nodded. “Lead the way!”
“This way, please.” Madam Hemingway gestured the way. Her gaze seemed to sweep across Sophia casually, but she turned away from her quickly.
Master Harris walked at the front while Madam Hemingway stood a little to his back on the right.
Sophia licked her dry lips again. Her legs felt like they were rooted to the ground.
“Miss White, please,” the man on her left said.
Sophia clenched her fists as sweat dripped down from her forehead. She took a deep breath and followed behind them.
She would need to take things one step at a time. At worst, she would choose death if the truth about this situation was revealed. She would never allow her brother and sister-in-law to suffer from this, nor would she ever want to return to East Suburb Prison!
Everyone got into the elevator in a formidable array and arrived on the seventh floor.
Dr. Channing and Dr. Lent were already waiting. They looked a little nervous, possibly because Master Harris was an extremely prominent figure.
“I’d like to trouble this young lady to follow the two doctors inside for the check-up.” There was a smile on Madam Hemingway’s face when she said this, but the look she gave Sophia was as if she was a stranger.
Sophia forced out a smile as best as she could. “Okay, thank you.”
She followed the two doctors into the room with weakening limbs.
Just as the doctors were about to close the door, Master Harris suddenly called out, “Wait, I’m going in too!”
Sophia lowered her head and did not see the expressions on the two doctors. All she saw was the younger doctor accidentally knocking into something before he immediately picked it up.
Madam Hemingway said, “Master Harris, are you that worried about the competency of our hospital’s doctors? This is actually the simplest check-up there is. Normally, one can test it using test papers at home. With these two doctors conducting the check-up for this young lady, there won’t be any problems with the results.”
Master Harris was insistent. “I’d like to see how the check-up is conducted and find out if the process is the same as before.”
Madam Hemingway did not say anything else.
There was a faint whiff of antiseptic in the room. Sophia cooperated with the doctors nervously for the check-up. Her back had long been wet from the cold sweat.
If Master Harris found out she was lying, would he get those two men to send her back to East Suburb Prison instantly or would there be another form of punishment?
What should she do then?
Sophia reached out to rub her ear. It was empty. There was only a pendant that hung around her neck. There was nothing she could use it for. She tried to look around the room as naturally as possible. There was a cup on the table and a few medical equipment.
She might be able to threaten Ken, but she could not use the same way to threaten Master Harris. Even if she successfully escaped, her brother and sister-in-law would end up paying the price!
What should she do? Was the only choice to accept Master Harris’ punishment?!
Sophia's mind was scattered. She was slowly descending into depression.
At that moment…
The older doctor spoke, “The results are out. She’s more than two months pregnant, but her health isn’t doing too well, which has affected the baby’s growth.”
